1620 firmware Q

I just recieved this burner: http://www.meritline.com/benq-dw-162...are-drive.html

Mine doesnt have the BenQ name on the front like that one and just shows up as an Atapi burner on my computer. I guess because its just Bulk/Oem. I actually thought I was getting a retail but I was wrong.

My question is what firmware should I be using? And how do I check which one is on it now? Would it be better to flash it to a 1620 pro?

Thanks

Re: 1620 firmware Q

Use DVDINFO PRO, DVD IDENTIFIER, or NERO INFO TOOL to see what firmware you have. If you have the "G" firmware then flash the drive to the "B" firmware by cross flashing the drive. Go to this site: http://dvdpro.club.st/firmware/BENQ_FW.htm
to download the windows flasher and B7P9 firmware cvt.file.

Re: 1620 firmware Q

You have to use WinDWFlash Tool, download firmware B7P9.cvt.
Flash the drive with this firmware, make sure there is no media in the drive, after flashing, reboot.

Then use firmware B7T9. This is a *.exe file so you don't have to use the WinDWFlash tool. That's all.

Re: 1620 firmware Q

Why would he "Cross Flash" to the T firmware, when he has an OEM G and the most recent fw for the OEM is G7P9? What is the benefit of cross-flashing to the T firmware?

He's asking "How do I crossflash" and why...the latest firmware should be the best.
Release notes:
1. Support Ricoh DVD+R DL [RICOHJPN D00] media.
2. Modify the writing strategy for both DVD+R & DVD-R media.
3. Support CCCD media playback.

But of course everyone is free to use his own favorite firmware and free to or not to crossflash.
