| Re: Unofficial LG ODD Firmware Links Are you trying the firmwares available here? http://search.dell.com/results.aspx?...19&k=GCC-4240N There are two different links, and the files seem different. You might have tried the wrong one of the two.

The pages are very unprofessional so don't expect everything should work as expected. (For that matter, the whole site could go down anyday without any notice. I haven't even paid for the line for 15 days.)I don't know why A103 or A104 is not released yet. I do hope LG can release a firmware that supports a lot more media at higher speeds without sacrificing too much quality. Those media that are not supported well are usually those not found in Japan or South Korea.

| Re: Unofficial LG ODD Firmware Links Thanks a lot for your work, Kenny. Without your posts I think that I wouldn't have bought by LGA-4163, and now I am very happy with that! ![]() Regards, ET Quote:

Do you think DVD-RW bitsetting will be added with any upcoming firmware? If so, that would make it just about the perfect drive for my needs. ![]()

| Re: Unofficial LG ODD Firmware Links I want to be able to swap the DVD writer in LG GSA 5163D with a hard drive (Make it swapable HD/DVD drive). I replaced with a maxator HD and the PC recognised it as a Maxator DVD writer. Is it possible to make it swappable and make the PC recognise the drive as external HD when it is a HD and External DVD Drive when it is the LG DVD drive by flashing the bios of the enclosure? If it is possible, where would I find the firmware? In doing so, it will greatly increase the utility of my drive for me. I also do not know of any links to the enclosures specifications. ![]() |

| Re: Unofficial LG ODD Firmware Links No flashing. I tried today and it works. I went through the computer management to install the new hd. Right now I am formatting the HD. Will try swapping with LG DVD Drive and back to HD to see if it retains all the data in there. |

Are you talking about my posted link?If so, open this page http://tdb.rpc1.org/ (The Dangerous Brother page about firmware) and do a search about GSA-4163B and you find the A104 link, the same I've posted above. ![]()

| Re: Unofficial LG ODD Firmware Links I did netlion and I disabled my Firewall but the file is always broken. Not more than 6-7KB.I don't think the firmware could be so small. Maybe because I am using DAP?

| Re: Unofficial LG ODD Firmware Links I also tried the same as sverkalo did above No go on any link or links from that using Free download Manager, LeechGet or Firefox. I have a FlashGet free pc and would prefer it to stay that way, clean and FlashGet bug free zone. I Also do object to having to turn off the firewall to download something, as firewalls, a/v and malware protectors is the only saftey we have on the net. Sure stops offsite leechers downloading but is stopping forum members from downloading aswell. It should be checking for cdfreaks members would be a good idea. Kenny any chance you could put this one on your site, so we can download it ![]() |

| Re: Unofficial LG ODD Firmware Links hallo there.. I downloaded the A104 firmware. but there are 2 .exe files in the zip file. one that says rpc1 (I guess region free), and one that says auto.. is the region free the only difference between them?? and about upgrading.. I posted on another topic too, but I got no reply.. Is it imperative to open my case every time I upgrade my firmware to disconnect my DVD-ROM from secondary slave (I have LG-4163 as secondary master).. Because I've read so in the instructions(it must be in secondary IDE as master alone, so that the upgrade works better).. And is it better to boot in XP safe mode when I want to upgrade?? |

| Re: Unofficial LG ODD Firmware Links Following instructions on manuals is a good choice but most people do just what they think is safe enough. For example, I don't wear anything when I touch computer parts, like bare motherboards. As for the RPC-1 and "auto" firmware files, read instructions on the TDB page, carefully and completely. http://tdb.rpc1.org is the official TDB page.
