just did it with a little help from Nicholas thanks mate

Now GCE-8481B to GCE-8520B


use mtkflash * w /m /b 8520b.bin

Can you flash it back to 8481B? How would you go about it, just getting the regular firmware off the korean site? thx

No you cant flash it back with the original kor firmware.

you have to make a backup of the firmware using Mtkflash if you ever want to go back.

hmm have a strange minor prob

nero cd speed detects all my blank cd-r and cd-rw as 32 min after i tested with data cd which still detects well. i tried going back to old firmware still shows 32:00 min.

had a similar problem with a BTC drive by any chance do you both have alcohol 120 install uninstall it and try

thanks again you are right, uninstalled and it came back.
im gonna OC it first then install alcohol since i didnt have prob with alcohol until i updated firmware

Dont see ne reason why

make sure you use the one in the zip file with the W /M /B command to write the new firmware

they probably use the same one for some Lite-ON models, but it doesn't in any way mean that the firmwares are interchangeable...
