The only Maxell-media that I can buy is the 8x DVD+R, 25 pieces costs 12,50 €.

I´m not sure how good the 16x Maxell are, I read somewhere that that media is made in Taiwan.

I have never heard of 16x Maxell media. They have 8x media (dash) that is made in Japan that burns at 16x on my NEC 3520 but I do not think Maxell mskes 16x media yet.

Properly posted something on Media forum instead (to which you already replied.)

As for topic... LG forum's most important topic is probably your MCSE thread for strategy swapping. I'm not sure whether I looked into it before but I wasn't near a computer on most April days. Any reason not to make it sticky?

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

I think u forgot to mention that u added support for 4120 in u'r latest release.
I try to import ricohjp.r03(4x max speed with original firmware so i thinks its a general 4x strategy that's used) over ricohjpn.r02 with my 4120 but only 8x max speed is enabled.Better than nothing
I don't have a quality scanning drive so i cant post any results

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

Hi!
I have a problem updating my LG 4163 with the patched firmware I get from MCSE 1.0.5.3.
When I use the original A104 firmware everything goes ok but with the patched firmware (TYG01 -> TYG02 or YUDEN T02 -> YUDEN T03) the update process ends with this error : "Updating was failed. Please repeat that. (Error data = 70 00 05 00 00 00 00 10 3b 03 00 00".

Has anyone any idea why I get this error message? I also tried in safe mode but nothing.

(This is my first post to this site so I don't know if I post were I should. Please forgive me if I did it wrong!)

It is not ready yet. If you check the Changelog file, you see:
Code:
not yet released
        - added LG 4120 support - still testing, @12x swaps are incomplete
        - added LG 4160 support - waiting for testers
        - added NEC ND-3530A support - waiting for testers
The @12 swap currently only seams to work if the MID has 8+3 characters and several other tests have not been done at all, so it is not released yet.

Could you try the same thing with MCSE 1.0.5.2 ?
Edit: This is a bug. Use MCSE 1.0.5.2 for the LG 4163 firmwares instead.

Thank you for your immediate response ala42!

Can you please tell me where I can find version 1.0.5.2? I looked on the forum and did a search on google but all I can find is 1.0.5.3.
(I can't enter MSCE homepage link. It says access forbidden)

If anyone has it please send it to this mail : lazgan@yahoo.gr

Thank you for your help ala42!
The problem of update failure is corrected with V1.0.5.2.

I just bought 100 pcs of TYG01 (4x). I want to burn them at 8x so I changed the TYG01 to TYG02 but the speed remains 4x. If I don't do something wrong,it seems than MCSE doesn't support this media at the moment.
I would be grateful if you could do something about it and help me earn some time
I think you will agree that improvement at lower recording speeds is more important than the faster speeds because the time difference is bigger!

Thanks again and keep up the amazing work!

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

The problem is that the 4163 and also the 4120 firmwares have a 4x write lock on 4x media and do not allow any 4x media to be burned at higher speeds. I doubt that I will spend weeks on searching for this lock.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

We LG owners have to be grateful to ala42 who is draining his brain out to crack the speed write lock so we will be able to burn TYG01 at 8X and many other media at 12X or higher. LG 4160 owners, please volunteer as alpha testers to assist him in perfecting the program.

There is no need at all to burn at 2x, this will not improve the write quality. It is just a never ending rumor that 1x or 2x burning improves quality.

You probably used MCSE 1.0.5.3, which had a bug, see the last posts here. Use MCSE 1.0.5.4 instead, but this will not improve your writing quality.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

Try to find someone who wants to dump his old, slow dvd-burner, in stead of trying to cripple the LG. It's like buying a Ferrari and then driving with the hand brake on so you can do 5 miles an hour.

For the Ferrari? Or to dump one of your old, slow dvd-burners?
