Welcome
Instead of adding the to your post, you better had added some details about what 'BAD LUCK' means for each of the strategy swaps you made. If you have a drive to scan your burning results, post them here, or simply describe what the problem is.
SONY08D1@SONY16D1 seams to work fine.

(RICOH-R01 to RICOH-R02)

I will have a look into the firmware over the weekend to understand how the short tables for 12x and 16x media are used. This might help for the 4x media. Well, it is the only hint I have

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

....Ala42... no news for LG users? The weekend passed... like many other guys here I can't overspeed 4x media like TTG01 even after firmware swap to TTG02. Need some help to make it work.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

I had only a short look at the firmware and located where the short tables for 12x and 16x write speed are accessed. Understanding what is done with them will take some time.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

Ala42, I personally appreciate a lot your work, the MCSE tool being such a great unified tool for many different writers... Beside swaping strategies I think it would be really helpful for LG users to hack the read-speed limitation for recordable media, if you just have the time and can locate this anoying drawback setting... Benq 1620 drives are now freed by you, LG 4163 drives screams for your help!

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

I just got my LG 4163 today. I have used the MCSE before on my BenQ so I know my way around the utility but I have a question.

Did I read right that you can only change 1 write strategy or am I totally reading it wrong?

thanks

ps Thanks for the great utilities Ala42

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

Yes, it seems that modifying more than one strategy makes the resulting firmware unusable. And sadly no 4x media can be persuaded to burn at 8x for now... Still waiting for better news.

You can only change one -R strategy, but you can change several +R strategies as long as the target strategy is in the lists in the first post and as long as it is used only once.

Ala42 is there anything you might do about LG 4163 reading speed? 10x CAV is way too slow for -R/+R...

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

I have already enough to do with looking inside the firmware to remove the restrictions for the strategy swapping at the moment, which will take several days of free time at least. In the next weeks I will probably do nothing on the read speed.

I always have your post in mind, so I had to add another brand to keep or even improve the rate .

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

ala42 appreciate your hard work you are putting into this app

RipLock for the LG4163B would be very nicw as and when you have the time to look into it. Or if it happens you spot the RipLock Unlock Funtion. In the code then for sure that would be a bonus for us all

Keep up the excellent work you are doing, all of us i'm sure you

I don't want to be rude but I think it is better to focus on the work you started and get the most out of LG 4163. There are many people here who anxiously awaits for faster read speed on +-R media, rip unlock, and only afterthat the all-swappable mediacodes.

I also do not want to be rude. Please do not try to push me. Asking the same thing again and again does not really improve the chance to get it.

ala42

Many of us praise you ala42 for the hard work you have done so far. Nobody means to be rude, they maybe just a tad excited, that they will get what they need for their LG4163B drives. Above all you do have respect from many LG4163B users and that is a positive respect.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

What ala42 means is that repeating suggestions and requests just makes him (and other people doing similar things) tired. Once from one person is usually more than enough. Imagine the sheer volume of pressure. Ironically enough, people who try hardest often are confronted with the most heat. The entire cycles have to be positive.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

@ala42 your work is awesome. You are doing this on your own time and some do not appreciate it at all!!! I personally do not as a rule burn anything faster than 8X. 8 mins and a half is just perfect for 4.7GB. Looking back to my Ricoh 1420 which had 4X read and 2X write for cd's, this is more than adequate, although I would live to get T01 and TYG01 to burn at 8X. They both burn extremely well on my A07XL drive at 8X. You are right about the 4X riplock. I have tried to change the strategy on these but have had no results as yet. Still 4X. On both the 1620 and 4163b. BUT your tool allows me to copy from my benq to 4163 in real time at 8X which is a godsend

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

I could remove the 4x writelock on 4x -R media for the current Benq firmwares in the mean time, so TYG01 can be burned at 12x with nice results on the Benq 1620 B7U9/V9 now. I did not have the time to look deeper into the LG firmware, but this is on my todo list.
