Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

Hello!

In MCSE the writing Speed in FW JL11/JJ11 (H10N) for DVD+R DL media RICOHJPN D00-001 is shown as 4x and 2.4x.

When I put in such a media, in Imgburn and in Nero CDDVD Speed, max speed is shown only as 2.4x. The actual write speed at "Max" is also 2.4x only.

What is the problem here?

Greetings

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

Both the main media table and the overspeed table indicate it should burn at 4x. Either this is a firmware bug or they disabled 4x write speed for this media somewhere explicitly.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

ala, Thx for the Info. I get a new spindle of this media somewhen this week. I will try then again.

I will also flash the original JL11 FW, not the TDB RPC1 one. Maybe they messed something up (dont think so).

Is there another info, which might be useful for you?

Greetings

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

Tried read acceleration with LG-4163B, seems that 16x is too much for my system/drive/DVD+R-s. Near the end of disks the drive slows down to about 2x.

Ala42, is it possible to choose the "grade" of acceleration? For example, to have one more checkbox or radio-button (Full/Moderate acceleration) and speed up to 12x for Rs and to 10x for RWs? It could be a nice compromise.

Dimmy.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

Sorry, slightly OT

Chefkoch:
I guess it's too late, but I would not recommend buying any more Ricohjpn D00-01 (I bought 10 because they were available as full surface printables). I tried 6 burns on different writers (including my LG 4163/5163) and they all were coasters. No writer would burn them higher than 2.4 speed. (I wonder why...)

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this - but in case someone is interested, I just used MediaCodeSpeedEdit to do a strategy swap for my LG 4163 drive.

I found that BeAll000 PG0-000 strategy can be renamed to support PRODISC R05-001 for a reasonably good 16X burn. These are FUJI 16X discs that I picked up about a month or so ago at Best Buy.

Without the strategy swap, the best they'll do is a 4X burn since the 106 firmware doesn't have an entry for PRODISC R05.

Try using silent mode, and test your media, or there is anydvd where there is 3 settings to choose from

ala42,

Are you planning on implementing a riplock patch for the H10N in the next release of MCSE?

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

The riplock patch for JL and JJ firmwares is working since last night. The stock JJ firmwares read already fast enough (someone correct me if that is wrong). Could someone post the cdspeed TRT startup read speeds for JL11 ?

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

I was thinking of rewritable media. ROMs were already fast.

Any "decelerator" utility can select speeds only from the list that the drive returns. LG returns 10x, 8x and 2x for +R. And I want to select 12x. Though, when I selected 10x, it was actually 16x. I didn't experiment further, but flashed the original A105 back. If 8x is replaced with 12x, it's OK. But again, how is it with RW's?

So, if it was possible to accelerate R's to 12x and RW's to 10x in the MCSE itself, it would be great.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

ala42, is this what you want?
4x DVD+RW, Sony S11, TRT on GSA-H10L LL11.
H10L LL11 should (is ?) be virtually the same as H10N JL11.

ignore the error etc., weird problems i'm having with this media (end of disc not being reconginzed. that had 3.1GB of data burned on it...)

you're talking about ripping DVD-video, right? sorry, no scans of that...

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

DVD+R MCC 004, again TRT on GSA-H10L LL11.

the TRT starting speed was anywhere between 6.80 and 6.89 on the various DVD+R scans i made (with only one exception, started at 6.76).

If you were using Nero CD Speed to measure the read speed of the drive and Nero DriveSpeed to slow it down, I've found out that CD Speed somehow bypasses the speed limits set by DriveSpeed. So you can set any speed you like but the drive will still read at 16x anyway. There is a trick to get DriveSpeed to work though :

1. Start both DriveSpeed and CD Speed.
2. Put whatever disc you want to do a TRT of into your drive and start the TRT.
3. Switch back immediately to DriveSpeed.
4. As soon as the drive stops spinning up, immediately select the speed you want to limit the drive to in DriveSpeed.
5. You'll see that CD Speed's current reading speed will suddenly drop slightly and you will probably see a vertical line on the graph, indicating the speed drop. That is perfectly fine.
6. You'll now find that the drive will only read up to 12x for that disc.

This worked for me with my 4163B. I suspect you have to do this for every disc you do a TRT of, though.

Anyone know a less cumbersome way to do this?

here i commented that i'm guessing that there's not much difference between the newer LG firmware JL11 and the older Hitachi firmware JJ11.
here karangguni suggested checking both in MCSE and comparing.

so i did just that and according to the output files (exported media code files) the JL11 has 5 new media codes which are not in JJ11.
however, i was wondering if there is some way of chekcing if the actual write strategies each firmware has for all other media codes (that both support) are the same?
can MCSE do this? (i'm new to MCSE)
if not is there any other tool that does ?

BTW, the media codes supported by JL11 (GSA-H10N) and LL11 (GSA-H10L) are identical. i can only assume that the actual write strategies are identical, since the drives are apparently the same except for the LightScribe hardware. but i'd like to check...
I was wondering if anyone was going to (or even cared about) making a modified JJ11 firmware, which included the 5 extra media codes? That way we could still have the benefits of JJ11 (Ultra DMA/66, etc.) and have the other codes also...

-Thanks

So what speed should I select? The drive allows me to choose between 10x, 8x and 2x, but I want my 12x!

Put DVD+-R disc into your drive and redetect speeds in Nero DriveSpeed.

That's strange. Nero speed allows me to select 12x for my 4163B. Maybe you can try adding it manually :

Click on options, enter 12 into the box which normally says "1" and click add. Then click ok. I don't have to do this but see if it works for you.
