| LG 4082 vs Liteon 812 what's better in your opinion? Liteon has an advantage of reading/writing CD-R at 40x, while LG read 32x and write 24x. liteon drives are similar to those of sony (some of them), and sony is always good, so liteon is good. while LG, i don't much about it. LG has advantage of DVD-RAM (BTW: what can it be used for? what's difference between DVD-RAM and DVD+-RW?) |

Differences between RW and DVD RAM: 1) RAM is randon access memory - behave exactly like a hard disk (only slower). With RW when you want to re write you must delete the whole disc. 2) theoretical rewrites for RW are 1000. For DVD RAM 100,000. 3) error conrol better on RAM. 4) RAM more expensive. 5) major RAM uses : back up and proffessional movie editing. Ram will most probably NOT play on your DVD player. I've bought the Lg because of the RAM. It practically gives you a 4.3 removable HD. | |

| Re: LG 4082 vs Liteon 812 I'll buy LG GSA-4120B instead of LiteOn SOHW-832S. But 4082 vs. 812S? 812S can be hack-modified into 832S and 832S seems to write to DVD+R DL discs even at 4x speed though whether a 812S@832S can write to DVD+R DL at 4x, or even at 2.4x at the same quality, I'm not sure yet.
