I got a bad flashing with my cdrom.
If not then does anyone have the LG cdrom 52x?

I have,nt got the bin file but i,ve got an LG CRD 8520b it is not an 8521 if you want the bin file tell me how do i get it and i,ll send it over .Even if u dont need it could u tell how i can retrieve the bin file ? programme to use etc

You can use mtkflash tool and with comand:

mtkflash X r /b /m filname.bin.

x is a number from 1 to 4
(1rimary master
2rimary slave
3:secondary master
4:secondary slave)

r is for read out the firmware
b is to save the firmware as a binary file
m is to marge the whole firmware into one file
filename.bin is for name of firmware

I,ve tried to get the bin file for u as u stated I made bootable floppy with drdos without xtra baggage i.e the one i use for flashing motherboard bios downloaded mtkflash 1.5 copied to floppy used the parameters u gave nothing happened i could see command prompts but nothing happened then i tried to make backup of my old philips cdd4801 nothing happened i,m not sure ? i,m doing wrong
after that i tried mtkflash 1.48 still same case scenario does mtkflash support philips or lg drives any other programmes or way i,ll be glad to help u might even learn a thing or two myself

maybe you`ve done it wrong:
If your drive is on the secondary master then you type:
Mtkflash 3 R /B /M filename.bin
If your drive is on the secondary slave then you type:
Mtkflash 4 R /B /M filename.bin

are you sure you gone in DOS mode and put the right floppy?
or did you type it wrong?
also make sure it is on the secondary slot.

i booted from floppy drdos used the same string for secondary master
Mtkflash 3 R /B /M filename.bin
it definately was in 2nd slot
the only thing i can think of is filename i just gave a filename i thought it merged and put it in *.bin
i put the spaces without spaces doesnt seem to work i,ll give it another go

i,m gonna try to get bin file of my ltr401255 if it works then i,ll know i,m not doing something wrong it might be the lg drive

i just tried mtkflash on my liteon 40speed cd writer was able to do it i,ll give the LG one more go can,t do it tonight its at my brothers workplace

the only thing i might be doing wrong that i can think of is spaces b/n 3r if it doesnt work tommorrow then i guess my drive might not work with mtkflash if u know of another programme that ca get bin file ??? one tell me and i,ll try and get bin file for u
