Re: CDFreaks presents: Memorex MRX-525GE External Multi-Format DVD Recorder Review

I like the reviews but not the write quality sections. They need some serious updating. I think cdfreaks should really use all that is available to them and do jitter scanning with their scans. Using cdspeed would be the easiest approach as it shows jitter and PIE/PIF all in one screenshot.

As for TRT tests, why don't cdfreaks use a dedicated scanner? Sometimes I see different drives performing TRT. Why not use the fussiest drive like an NEC TRT @ 16x? Most discs will TRT fine on BenQs, Liteons, LGs etc so it's not really a good indication of true quality when you use a reader with such good error correction.

I think we have heard this in almost every post from you for a while. At this point I think the reviewing team got your message, and you continue pushing it only serves to annoy.

Or perhaps you are channeling Marcus Porcius Cato?

Ah well, I really don't think the whole team got the message. Since the only one who ever replied to me was Dee27.

It's kind of n00bish that everyone else uses jitter on the forums where possible, but not cdfreaks....

Am I annoying you, Drage?

Re: CDFreaks presents: Memorex MRX-525GE External Multi-Format DVD Recorder Review

From what I know (true it's not much lol) us reviews run tests laid out by our coordinators so if you are really going to make an issue about it posting in peoples reviews won't get you anywhere, you need to head much higher up the food chain

Re: CDFreaks presents: Memorex MRX-525GE External Multi-Format DVD Recorder Review

How do I reach people higher on the food chain? No one's really said much in response to anything I've asked or stated about cdfreaks quality sections being reviewed. I have not had any valid answers as to why jitter has not been used. I've only had Dee27 tell me she disagreed and thinks that jitter scanning is not accurate, which was pretty much shot down by most of the senior members when they read it.

I'm simply trying to make a few helpful suggestions here and there. Take it as annoying if you all want. I can just stop posting about the subject all together if that's what everyone wants. I've found some interesting things out about quality scanning, Ive shared some but people seem to get annoyed from me doing so it seems.

Not true, i said i was not convinced it was accurate on any home drive.

Again not true.

Here was the actual response.

Our testing methods are continually reviewed by the review team. But we do not make changes to our tests lightly, or without considering the impact of introducing new tests. We also have to consider consistency with older reviews.

Your findings are interesting, but we don't all have to agree with them. The review team certainly won't be bullied into making changes to the testing methods. And changing methods require agreement from the whole review team (10 members).

Again, true. You just admitted you didn't think it was accurate, was I supposed to include the part about home drives? Isn't that what we are all using here on cdfreaks? I never said you thought professional drives reported jitter incorrectly, I was referring to home drives only, as that's the only type of quality scanning drive featured on this entire site and forum. Nice try at twisting the truth there.

The actual response just posted by you, was directed at me. Where's all the ones by Dragemester, Fancksoy etc?

It seems like you're trying to make me look incorrect in front of everyone here by posting a load of technicalities and only small bits and pieces extracted from the thread in question.

EDIT: I do not want to start any arguments at all. I just want to hear what other reviews think of jitter scanning. Will it ever be used etc.

EDIT2: I'm also grateful to anyone who visited and or posted in some of my threads I've made in the Media Identifying and Testing Forums. While we may not see eye to eye, Dee27, I am pleased that you did answer some of my questions/statements I've made.

No single person including myself has the authority to answer your question. As i already said, reviewing matters and methods are discussed by the whole review team and this is done in private.
You continually ranting on about this here and on other forums won't hurry things along, quite the opposite in fact.

Memorex actually does quality assurance checks on their DVD burners to ensure that they can perform as advertised, in this case, at 18x writing via USB. They are careful at selecting and testing external enclosures to ensure that they actually work with their optical drives.
