Wow. Lots of new (p)reviews today, it seems

Nice LG, but was the jewel-cased Memorex 16x DVD+R in the pack also MCC 004?

Re: CDFreaks presents: The Memorex MRX-525G Internal Multi-Format DVD Recorder Preview

Actually Memorex have been rebranding other drives like NECs before for a long time

I assume that this one is a LG GSA-H22N, similar to the external flavor (http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=217964)...

Thanks MegaDETH for the preview.

This is based on LG GSA-H22N drive. The same with The Kipper's full review of the External version: MRX-525GE External.

Edit: kg beats me to it.

Yes the Memorex 16x DVD+R in the pack was MCC 004 and it was the disc used in the writing performance test

Re: CDFreaks presents: The Memorex MRX-525G Internal Multi-Format DVD Recorder Preview

@MegaDeth - Are the Optodisc 16x +R discs tested from shop4tech? The reason I ask is the cakebox looks different from the discs I received from shop4tech. Mine were labeled Arco Circle although the discs themselves were unbranded. Is the picture correct because it shows no brand on the top label?

I guess they did that intentionally because CMC MAG M01 or RICOHJPN R03 won't work as well at 18x

They might have but I have gotten MCC 004's in all different packs so maybe it was a crap shot or maybe not

After reading both new reviews, it would be a hard choice, internal or external, both reviews are great, great job MegaDETH. Keep these reviews coming.

Ditto. Picked this drive up at Fry's a few weeks back. Noticed no firmware updates too. Where are all the posts for this drive? Rak69, MegaDETH, et al, can you post your burns and scans? Thanks!

Re: CDFreaks presents: The Memorex MRX-525G Internal Multi-Format DVD Recorder Preview

I have one of these DVD-RAMs.

NOTE: The ref Wikipedia article makes interesting reading. Learned much on DVD formats, like the spiral format.

Memorex DVD+RAM 525G v1 (Device Manager)
MS Driver 5.1.2535.0 - 7/1/2001
MDL# MRX-5256 18x Multi-Format DVD Recorder (incl DL)
WinXP Pro SP3

But there is a small problem, sometimes it has trouble reading standard CDs.

This internal never has problems with reading DVDs.

Also, I have an external version (Firewire) of the exact same drive and it never has problems reading CDs nor DVDs. In fact, I can take a CD that cannot be read on the internal, and it will be read by the external.

Also, the same Microsoft driver is used on Internal & External.

Went to the Memorex site (IMHO sucks), and found no Firewire updates. Then again, you cannot search by model number, but you can find this model under the product list.
