| Re: Wiring DVD player: cable box or TV For curiosity, which brand & model of DVD player do you have? If your DVD player has component output (red, green & blue colour connections), connect these to the matching red, green & blue colour connections on the TV respectively and then use your RCA cable to connect the two red & white audio connections at each end. If you only have composite connection cables (red, yellow & white plugs at each end), you can use this as a temporary measure to test the component video with, e.g. using the red to connect the reds, white to connect the blues and yellow to connect the greens at each end. If the TV or DVD player does not have these red, green & blue sockets, you'll need to use a different connection, such as connecting the composite (yellow) or SVHS at each end, along with the red & white audio connections. If the DVD player has a HDMI output and the TV has a HDMI input, I would strongly recommend getting a HDMI cable to hook the DVD player to the TV. Most TVs that have a HDMI input will also receive the sound over this without any additional cables between the TV and DVD player. I would advise leaving the connections between the cable box and the TV as they are, as the only time you would connect the cable box to a DVD player (if it has pass-through inputs) is if the TV has only one set of inputs and thus need to chain them. Finally, check the DVD player manual to see if there is a video output selection. If your DVD player is a HD upscaling player or a model that can output multiple video types (e.g. PAL, NTSC, 480P, 576P, etc.), you will need to get the DVD player to output the correct video output before the picture will display on the TV. For example, if your DVD player is connected by composite (red, white & yellow connections), is set to 480P and the TV does not support 480P over composite, it will not show a picture from the DVD player as if the composite connections are not connected. |
