Re: TEVION TDR930 ? known ? Yep, I got one of these for Christmas. Probably a bit late to reply, but in any case... I've played a few DivXs so far and no problems. Picture Quality on Normal DVDs is not great (compared to my Luxman DVD player which costs a fair bit more), but IMHO ok for the price. Seems a bit darker/cloudier when using my Epson Projector TV (but that just could be because the cable I am using is quite long and my old DVD player was more forgiving). I recorded a few programs and they were quite good. Has 5 quality settings for recording - 60, 120, 180, 240 and 360 minutes. I used the 360 the other day and picture was a bit grainy (although only really a problem when using my projector TV). Default is 120 and this seems to be about the same quality as a 700MB DivX. Some minor bad points (keeping in mind though the price of AUD129); 1. Channel scanning seems to be only automatic - so can't change "found" channel numbers (I can live with Seven being C09, Nine being C11, etc). There is an edit facility but this seems more for fine tuning than channel altering. 2. Only records as a DVD (ie .VOBs, etc). Would have preferred a .mpg file to allow for easier editing). 3. Doesn't seem to "broadcast" on the RF out. It accepts the antenna input and also feeds it out to outher devices (ie a repeater) but you can't tune your tv to a particular UHF channel like a VCR for a video output (not a big issue as I use composite anyway, but good for the kids who don't mess around with 5.1 and just want to turn the TV on). All in all a very good machine for the price IMO.

Re: TEVION TDR930 ? known ? I just bought one - tested - works great but see the problem I have with copying my BOUGHT tapes to DVD. sez "copy protect, recording stopped' This is just BS in this day and age. I own the tapes and I want to cut them to DVD copy protection or no. There must be a way around this either by Technician code [ like zone disable in players ] or disabling some circuitry or using a filter. Get the same message with direct AND RF copy attempt. Any clues ??

Re: TEVION TDR930 ? known ? Yep a bit tricky but I managed to get Foxtel working ok. I have two connections from my Foxtel set-top: 1. from the RF of my foxtel to the RF on the Tevion (ie antenna connection); as well as 2. a connection from the composite of the SCART plug on my Foxtel set-top (This is using a digital Satellite set top NOT an IQ version). If you haven't got a SCART you may be able to use a S-video depending on your foxtel box. The Tevion takes all these so you can choose the best one for you. So for me as I am using composite/SCART cable (SCART one end, composite RCA on the other end), I have a SCART connected on the foxtel and this has the three RCA leads (red/white for audio and yellow for video) connected to the Tevion input. Now for setting-up the RF input, you need to go use the "SETUP" button on the TEVION to bring up the setup menus. One of the menus is the channel setup (I think it looks like an antenna symbol). Make sure you have selected the "CABLE" input. If all is ok you then select "SCAN" sit back and wait for it to find the channels (I had to do this a few times as it occassionally missed a channel here or there). Finally it selected P038/C047 for FOXTEL, but I assume will depend on what your set-top is programmed to broadcast on. The SCART comes through as the "rear-CVBS". So I can then either select the 38 to get foxtel via the RF cable, or use the source button to select the CVBS input. Same if I decide to record. Hope this helps. BTW I found you can use the USB connection on the front to use a USB thumb/flash drive. So rather than burn individual DVDs, I can keep my movies stored on my hard drive (as either .vob, .mpg, .avi, .divx, etc) and just copy to a USB stick when I want to watch. I also realised that when I record a show, even though it creates a DVD (ie .vob), I can copy/decrypt to my PC and of course rename the .vob to a .mpg. (Since a .vob is basically a mpeg2 file) I can then use my normal video editing tools to get rid of commercials, etc. and the create a new .mpg/divx, etc. Cool! Hope my rambling helps ;~)
