Sony RDR HXD760 dvd recorder

I have had this dvd recorder for about 4 months now. I notice when you insert a dvd it loads ok but nothing comes on screen. Only when you press Top Menu or Menu on the remote will the dvd menu come on tv. This happens about 90% of the time. Is this common for this machine or am I the only one with this issue?

The other issue I have noted is if I am dubbing multiple shows (say three or four or more shows) on to disc from the hard drive and say the shows have originally all been recorded in LSP mode, if you dub using fast mode some of the shows will end up on disc in LSP mode and some in ESP mode. This is despite the disc having enough space to accommodate this. If I choose to dub in "original" mode same thing happens. If I choose to dub in LSP mode you would think they all will be dubbed in LSP mode, but no. same result some in some not. Anyone have the same issue or are able to tell me if this works fine on theirs?

A further twist to the this is the dvd recorder also does the reverse. ie. with multiple shows being dubbed in fast mode from hard drive to disc, if there is enough space it will upscale the quality. In other words if you recorded in SP it may dub it in HSP or HQ. This is absurd because you cannot increase quality of the video this way. It only uses up unnecessary disc space which you now can't use later on if you wanted to add other stuff later. Or once again maybe it is just my machine. Interested to know others experience.

Also sometimes if you are recording a show to the hard drive and you play a dvd at the same time, when you stop the dvd the picture and sound are not present from the digital tuner but yet it is still recording. A test shows that despite no picture or sound being visible everything still records ok. If you turn the power off still no picture from tuner but if you pull the main plug out and back on the picture and sound come back.

Interested to hear others experience. Also has there been any updates for this machine?:
