| Sony DVP-NS715P skipping/freezing I have a Sony DVP-NS715P stand alone progressive scan DVD player. It seems to play all pressed DVD-ROMs just fine. It has done a good job with home burned VCDs and SVCDs. Lately I have noticed that several FujiFilm (Taiyo Yuden) and Verbatim DVD+Rs burned in my NEC 3500A/Mad Dog dangerous brothers beta bit set to DVD-ROM with Nero 6.6.0.3 and NeroVision Express 3.0.1.14 have places in the video that will break up and freeze during playback on my Sony stand alone. I thought that maybe the laser lens in my stand alone was dirty so I ran a Memorex laser lens cleaning disk several times. That helped a bit but not completely. I tried the "problem" disks in my computer DVD burner and in a portable DVD player and the disks seem to play perfectly with no stutter or freezing. This leads me to believe that maybe the laser lens is still dirty or maybe my stand alone has some kind of tracking problem. Does anyone have any ideas on what may be causing this? Any ideas on how to correct this - short of buying a new player? Thanks, Bob Shem

| Re: Sony DVP-NS715P skipping/freezing Are you using a hacked bitsetting firmware on the NEC 3500? Other people have seen similar things as well that did not occur with the standard firmware.

| Re: Sony DVP-NS715P skipping/freezing As part of my troubleshooting process I replaced the Dangerous Brothers beta 2.F8 firmware with 'factory' 2.FA firmware from the Mad Dog Multimedia web site and I also used the bitsetting program from the Mad Dog web site to 're-set' the bitsetting.

| Re: Sony DVP-NS715P skipping/freezing Check this out: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=115269 Edit: Since I last looked at that thread it looks like there have been some new comments and info posted, particularly about that Sony player you mentioned. This looks to be a very odd, special-case scenario.

| Re: Sony DVP-NS715P skipping/freezing I think there are problems with Sony players and 3500 burned disks. I am not sure on what the solution is other than what I did and replaced my sony player. I was using Yudens and Ricohs same symptoms as you. Is your player a precision drive 2 or 3? I heard precision drive 3 do better with burned dvds. Mine was a precision drive 2.
