Sanyo DRW-1000 The Sanyo DRW-1000 is for sale at Walmart for $400, elsewhere on numerous net sites for $250. It records/plays both DVD and VCR. Says it reocrds DVD "-R and -RW" and plays the "+" also. Problem is, I cannot find any opinion on this model at all. Plus, it is not even on the Sanyo website. That is odd to me, but the box has the genuine "Sanyo" logo on it. Anybody have any experience with te DRW-1000 or any Sanyo products?

Re: Sanyo DRW-1000 Sorry for the late response. This model is a trimmed version of DZR-DV90 which was just released in Japan in July. Please refer to the following link for a close look. http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/av/do...15/sanyo01.jpg Sanyo looks to be a minor company but it has a largest share in the laser pickup market. It is quite big in the OEM market. I'm just planning to buy this model. Cheers. Makoto

Re: Sanyo DRW-1000 I picked up one of these and am fairly impressed with it. I've made some DVD recordings and VCR recordings and I like many of the features. I am hoping someone here has more experience with this unit than I do. I use DVD-RW disks and record in VR mode. After recording, I edit and finalize disk. I then attempt to copy the recording to a DVD-R or DVD+R for viewing in other players. I'm not having much luck getting these disks recognized by other players. Anybody have some tips for a noob in making copies that play? What program do you use to copy to a permanent disk? I've tried Ez Media 7.0 and AnyDVD. Tried 1Click DVD Copy and DVDXCopy. All with AnyDVD running in the background. Thanks all!!!!

Re: Sanyo DRW-1000 Just got my DRW-1000 yesterday. First I tried it with DVD+R. Don't work! Unknown disk. went to Wal-Mart and bought DVD-R, That worked? I guess, First I tried to burn a movie I recorded on VHS from HBO. I got about half of it then I get an error that the disk is faulty and it quit? Next I put in a home video that I recorded and a new DVD-R. Same scenario, about an hour (2.3GB) into it I get the error again! I'm using Maxell DVD-R recording in SP mode? Don't know if its a problem with me or the machine? Guess I'll try the DVD-RW next? Anybody else had this problem??? Thanx Mark ![]()

Re: Sanyo DRW-1000 To update on my last post and address what emimegfel asks. I was recording videos just fine and after about 25-30, it said it completed a recording but upon playback, it stopped recording half way through. After that disk, the unit will not recognize ANY DVDs. Blank DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R or a factory recorded disk. It WILL recognize and play a CD. I contacted Sanyo and it appears they are having major issues with this unit. I shipped mine back to them and for $85 USD, they are either repairing or replacing the unit. There is a backlog and you will have about a 30-45 day wait to get your unit back. I was well pleased with the movies I finally got from this unit before it failed. I recorded movies in VR mode, went back and edited the ends to remove unwanted video, titled it and finalized. I then take the DVD to my computer, crank up TEMPGen DVD Author. I create the DVD using that program and burn to DVD. It generally takes about 45 minutes for the complete process. I have compressed a 2-1/2 hour movie to a DVD-R with excellent quality. Make sure you have done the firmware upgrade Sanyo has available on their site. If cleaning the lens and doing upgrade does not cure your problem, I suggest you contact Sanyo to ship the unit back for repair. $85 is much cheaper than buying a new DVD burner/VCR combo.

Re: Sanyo DRW-1000 Been a while but I'll update here anyway. After almost 2 months of waiting I received a replacement unit from Sanyo. I immediately put it back in service. I had a project waiting that would test it thoroughly. I had a complete TV series on VHS to dub to DVD for a home archive. There were 60 tapes with 3 episodes on each. The unit performed flawlessly. This is a very easy unit to master and the quality of the finished product is great. It was well worth the $85 out of warranty repair and the wait. Since the large project completion, I have also timer recorded several hours to DVD. Still working fine. I have even located and purchased another of these units, factory reconditioned. Want to have a back-up just in case. If I have more large projects come in I will be able to complete it in half the time. ![]() I would recommend the unit. You may find one with factory reconditioned warranty on eBay like I did.
