Samsung DVD-SR150M

I got given this machine for christmas, quite like it other than it isnt user friendly.

Anyway, i record programmes using a dvd-r in V mode and finalise them after.

My computer then cannot play the finalised disc, it recognises it and brings up the title menu but when you press on the programme it plays a blank screen.

My other DVD player also brings up the title menu fine but plays the programme in one corner of the screen.

Does anyone know how to rectify this, is this because i am recording in LP recording mode?

Also does anyone know any free software for playing dvds/buring dvds on your computer?

Thanks

John

Re: Samsung DVD-SR150M

Welcome to CD Freaks

Going by the manual, the DVD-R V (Video) mode should be compatible with other players, so a few likely issues may include disc quality issues or compatibility issues with the recording mode. As standalone DVD recorders physically write to disc much slower than a PC and do so intermittently as they can only write in real time, a disc that may work fine in a PC optical drive may not be of good enough quality for the DVD recorder. I've had this issue happen on me a few times in the past where the title shows, but will go no further with a few brands of discs.

To start off with, if you have a large quantity of these discs left, I would suggest trying a different recording mode (e.g. SP) just in case it is related to how the player handles the recording mode. It's unlikely the issue, but worth a try to start with.

Otherwise, try a different brand of DVD-R, such as Verbatim (assuming you've not tried this brand). If you've already tried a few DVD-R brands, try a DVD-RW, first in the DVD-R V mode and also in the VR mode to see if either of these helps. DVD-RW also has the advantage in that you can erase it later, such as if you recorded a wrong program or it was not shown, etc. You can then later transfer the DVD-RW recordings to DVD-R on a PC for permanent store and to reuse the more expensive DVD-RWs for new recordings.

Re: Samsung DVD-SR150M

Thanks for that. It must be the brand of DVD-R.

Its strange though as i have recorded 2 things recently both in SP and one didnt work on my other dvd player but worked on my computer and the other worked on my other player but not on my computer.

It must just be the brand of DVD-R. If not i wil try DVD-RW.

Thanks for the info

Re: Samsung DVD-SR150M

Just another quick question, Im still having problems with this machine, wish i had got a hard disc drive one now, but anyway. I cant record on the extra long record mode which should give my 6 hours of record time. It just does it on the long play mode and ignores what i have set it on. Is this due to me using DVD-R would a DVD-RAM be better?

Re: Samsung DVD-SR150M

As my DVD recorder has now broke, if samsung cant fix it (which i hope they cant as its bad) what should i spend my refunded money on?

I would like to get a hard disc drive recorder this time. Can play Div x, would also be nice if i could record in DVD-r and had a digital tuner but this isnt essential.

Can anyone give me any recommendations?
