I have a LG RH299H HDD\DVD Recorder. Is there a hack so that I can backup\copy\record DVD's that a copy protected to my HDD.

try dvdshrink first.then write to dvd . then transfer from dvd to hdd.

can anyone assist me with the hex codes for the LG RH299 dvd recorder to make region free.

For what it is worth I have been given the following "recipe" to open the LG RH299H HDD/DVD recorder.

Setting for open regions

1. Unplug AC supply for +- 2 mins.(No disc in machine).
2. Re-plug machine into AC supply.
3. On remote, press Power Button Key. (Await for "no disc" to appear
on screen).
4. Press pause button and while holding down enter 314159 on number
keypad .
5. Change region will appear on the screen.
6. Press "0" (Zero) button.
7. Press "Pause" and "Power" buttons together.
8. Machine will power down
9. When it powers up again, as it will automatically, it will be in
standby mode.
10. For further programming just wait about 2 mins. and then proceed
as normal.

I was instructed to do the above and if it does not work to try again. If it still does not work I was instructed to then contact the South African LG factory for further help. I have not done the above myself yet as I am still trying to solve my problem which is as follows.

I can record ex dish /satellite and also edit successfully but after dubbing and then trying to play the dubbed DVD on another DVD player the alternative player can't identify the disc recorded/dubbed on the RH299H recorder. The technicians at the factory told me that the reason is perhaps that the unit needs software updating. It is this updating need that brought me to this forum ex Google search. Is there anyone on this forum who can help me with the right place to find the updates for the LG RH299H model DVD recorder?
