Hello, I've had my HP DVD840x drive for awhile now, and it has progressively gotten worse. My drive can barely read any DVDs I get from Netflix anymore, but yet if I were to take that same DVD on my wife's computer or even out to the living room's DVD player, it plays fine. A lot of the DVD's don't even have deep scratches on them! The HP still seems to read data DVDs and CDs just fine, and I've had no troubles burning Lightscribe labels....it just won't read DVD movies hardly at all. My DVD is in Ultra DMA mode, and I'm getting no other signs of errors in Windows XP. I've tried looking for Firmware upgrades on HP's web site, and there seems to be only one utility for an 840i....when I try to use that utility, it says my DVD writer is incompatible for the upgrade. What do I do? Just assume my HP drive is crap, and go buy something else at Best Buy? Thanks.
