If you post a picture of the back connections on your dvr and receiver, may be someone can help, as there are few option, not necessarily all available on your system.
The latest and quickest is HDMI, others need more cables.

Receiver and DVR models?

For DVD recording, you want the S-Video and analog audio outputs from the Dish box to the Phillips.
