Best Way to Hookup DVD Recorder

Hi, everyone. I am looking for the best way to hook up my DVD recorder. Here is the problem I currently have. I watch my directv on video 6. In order to use the dvd recorder I have to switch to video 1. However, when I switch over to use the recorder, the quality of the show I am watching is downgraded in quality a fair amount. What is the problem here?

Thanks

If you really want help, you need to provide a lot more information. What components are you using and how ARE they connected?

As a rule, a recorder will need to be connected to DirecTV receivers by SVHS and line-level audio. RF or composite video connects will produce an inferior picture. The DVD recorder should be connected to the monitor by component video. Anything less will result in an inferior picture.

Thank You.

I will check to see how I am hooked up and get back with you.

Is there away to hook it up so I dont have to switch to an alternate video line? I want to simply hit power and have it play, and not have to switch the video line.
