Re: about hard drive dvd recorders

With HDD/DVD recorders, the best way is to record the TV program to HDD first, then use the editing functions to remove the commercial breaks, and then transfer to DVD.

Most if not all HDD/DVD recorders support doing that, although the exact way to do it differs (and there is usually a couple of ways to do it on each recorder).

I won't recommend any models, because they differ too much between different countries.

Re: about hard drive dvd recorders

first of all thank you for your fast response. and i'm being a bit slow as i'm working at the moment in a 16 hour shift. with a recorder awith hard disc drive i would record to hard drive the program commercial and all then with the editting features on the machine tell it to erase commercials then transfer to disc. if i'm watching the program that i'm recording can i pause during commercials so it would be recorded to hard drive without commercials or you have to record commercials. sorry if questions are redundant but want to learn all i can before buying one

Re: about hard drive dvd recorders

I was just reading about a hard disk dvd recorder with one touch pause live tv, would that give me the ability to save to hard disk without commercials and would this be something I should look into getting with a hdd recorder. what would you all recommend.
thanks for your help

Trying to pause and then restart recording while watching something live is not the way to do it on a Hard Disk Drive recorder - it takes more work, it's less accurate, and you run the risk of forgetting to start recording again.

Recording everything to harddisk and then perform editing later is the best way to do it.

Re: about hard drive dvd recorders

I think I have one more question about HDD, if I record 2 hours of cartoons and then 2 hours of news then another 2 hours of cartoons I would be able to edit the commercials out of just the shows I want then record to dvd just the cartoons to one dvd?
thank you

Yes. You could also split the recording into three titles (cartoons, news, cartoons) and then edit out commercials from each cartoon title and ignore or delete the news title.

I wouldn't recommend recording 4 hours onto one single layer 4.7 GB DVD, however, as the picture quality will be affected, but it is certainly possible.
