Yea, my reason is that I have a perfectly good media center box that I use for recording things digitally off my cable company's HD DVR box using firewire, a tv tuner card of its own to record SD channels, and of course an awesome Lite On dvd burner. You might say, why not just use your backup that has all that stuff removed anyway? And that would be a valid point if all I ever watched were movies that I own. But I don't have unlimited funds to purchase every new movie out there and there are a *LOT* of movies that I simply want to watch once and that's it. Netflix is great for that. Plus I've been buying some DVD's from the UK that aren't available in the US and need the region free ability. And to top it off, my MCE2k5 machine gives me MUCH better video quality than my POS Sony ever did. Given all the things my MCE box can do that a stand alone player can't, it makes sense that I'd want to watch DVD's on it as well.

I found it interesting that the article was put up on /. today. Anyway, I have to agree with their statement about quality...Something to think about.
