Re: Vista and AnyDVD

The last update supposed to fix that however christmas and vista are no longer as it has been pushed back til the first quarter of next year now instead of January as the original release was supposed to be. Here's the log of all the updates and what was done to improve each one.

Also there is a rumor that vista will be a tattler on what is done. It will store history somehow and if on the net it'll supposably report to MS what you been copying and so on. This I haven't confirmed but been on the vista story since the first beta and keep seeing this. So you might not be so interested.

Re: Vista and AnyDVD

After investigating Dr. Who comments it looks like the number one reason people will move to the Mac is Vista. Any chance for Anydvd on Mac?

As an official Microsoft beta tester using the latest Vista build, I can tell you that there are lots of rumours circulating about VISTA that are either FALSE/COMPLETLY made up or overly exagerated.

As with Windows XP, out of the box the OS runs a lot of services in the background, most of which you wold want to disable In beta stage the OS does gather statistical information on performance, etc......

There is something called PRIVACY - What is reported to microsoft are usually demographical or statistical data - in no way personal information on what you are doing is sent.

And even if it were the case - you could us a firewall and simply BLOCK out certain programs from sendign outbound traffic.

Eventually you will be able to use Anti-Spy XP type applications to DISABLE those logging features much like you can do in XP. Soon there will be a tool called TweakVI, also used for tweaking VISTA.

If you are an official beta tester (or unofficial ) maybe it is not such a good idae for you to be doing illegal activities anyways - Even if MS did gather details on applications you use your websites you visit, they are not after each individual who engages in illegal activities the same way they can TELL if you are using a pirated windows or legit copy, yet they won't send anybody to your door if you have a pirated copy.

There is so much paranoia circulating on the net.

The same sites that spread rumours about OPenGL games not working, about DX7 and DX8 games not working, etc. that is pure rubbish!

AnyDVD works fine with Windows Vista 32-bit. It currently does not work with Windows Vista 64-bit versions, because Vista 64-bit requires all drivers to be signed. The AnyDVD.sys and ElbyCDIO.sys drivers are not signed and won't load.
As both CloneCD and CloneDVD use drivers, they won't work, too. They do work fine on Vista 32-Bit.
I believe we will have signed drivers ready at the time when Vista 64-bit will be released, it doesn't make sense to invest time and money now during the beta stages.
Maybe Microsoft reconsiders the requirement to have all drivers signed or offers the user to allow loading of unsigned drivers.

I am also doing "VISTA" bata testing and I like to ad in X and VISTA when you have "Automatic Update" enable information of any software or programs are being gethered and send constantly to Microsoft and if any illegal activities related to MS product being detected the automatic disabling mechanism being send to your computer through function of "Automatic Updates" and that will disable the particular program when to your surprised next time you try to use that program you will find that you can't.

How to Disable Signature Enforcement during Development

During the early stages of development, developers can disable enforcement in Windows so that driver signing is not necessary. The following options are available for developers to disable kernel mode code signing enforcement temporarily so that Windows Vista will load an unsigned driver.
· Attaching a kernel debugger. Attaching an active kernel debugger to the target computer disables the enforcement of kernel mode signatures in Windows Vista and allows the driver to load.
· Using the F8 option. An F8 Advanced Boot Option introduced with Windows Vista—“Disable Driver Signature Enforcement”—is available to disable the kernel-signing enforcement only for the current boot session. This setting does not persist across boot sessions.
· Setting the boot configuration. A boot configuration setting is available in the Windows Vista Beta2 release that disables the enforcement of kernel mode signatures to be persisted across boot sessions.
Windows Vista includes a command-line tool, BCDedit, which can be used to set the option in Windows Vista Beta2 to disable signature checks. To use BCDedit, the user must be a member of the Administrators group on the system and run the command from an elevated command prompt. An elevated command prompt can be launched by creating a desktop shortcut to cmd.exe, and then using right-click and “Run as administrator”.
The following shows an example of running BDCedit at the command prompt:

// Disable enforcement – no signing checks
Bcdedit.exe –set nointegritychecks ON

// Enable enforcement – signing checks apply
Bcdedit.exe –set nointegritychecks OFF

// Disabling integrity check on an alternate OS
// specified by a GUID for the system ID
Bcdedit.exe –set {4518fd64-05f1-11da-b13e-00306e386aee} nointegritychecks ON

Note: The Bcdedit option to disable integrity checks is only available for loading unsigned drivers on the Windows Vista Beta2 release. For more information, see the BCD Editor FAQ on the MSDN Web site.
