Updated DVDRW Firmware, now out-of-region DVD's won't play

Have been using AnyDVD for only a few weeks, up until now with no problems.

Drive has always had a problem recognising some DVD's were in the drive, seemed to be a known issue with the drive, so I updated the firmware. Now out-of-region DVD's won't play ("Region code does not match the DVD-ROM's region designation".), even though AnyDVD says everything is OK (see below). I have removed and reinstalled AnyDVD (6099). DVD is Plextor PX-716A, Firmware was 1.04, now 1.10.

Here's the summary from AnyDVD:

Summary for drive F: (AnyDVD 6.0.9.9)
Drive (Hardware) Region: 1

Media is a Data DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (opposite)
Size of first Layer: 2009600 sectors (3925 MBytes)
Total size: 3916289 sectors (7649 MBytes)

Video DVD (or CD) label: DOCTOR_TORNADO_AND_KK
Media is CSS protected!
Video Standard: PAL
Media is locked to region(s): 2!

RCE protection not found.
DVD structure appears to be correct.
Structural copy protection not found.
Autorun not found on Video DVD.
Bad sector protection not found.
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 2!

Any ideas?

Sorry if this is a known issue, tried searching but couldn't see anything.

Injected -

Welcome to the Forum.

Just out of curiosity if you are located in Prague, Czech why do you have your Computer DVD device locked to Region #1? Wouldn’t you want your Computer DVD device locked to Region #2?

To not have to worry about DVD Regions suggest visiting The Dangerous Brothers (TDB) Web Site and flash your Plextor PX-716A with their Plextor PX-716A Region Free (RPC-1) v1.10 Firmware. That way you will not have to be concerned about the “Region Code Does Not Match The DVD-ROM's Region Designation” problem anymore ->

Best Regards,

Re: Updated DVDRW Firmware, now out-of-region DVD's won't play

I occasionally buy PAL disks for OOP titles here in USA
and thay play fine on PC even with regular FW with AD running
for eg on this lite-on
Summary for drive X: (AnyDVD 6.0.9.9)
Drive (Hardware) Region: 1

Media is a Data DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (opposite)
Size of first Layer: 2054288 sectors (4012 MBytes)
Total size: 4060548 sectors (7930 MBytes)

Video DVD (or CD) label: FLASH_GORDON_SE
Media is CSS protected!
Video Standard: PAL
Media is locked to region(s): 2!

RCE protection not found.
DVD structure appears to be correct.
Structural copy protection not found.
Autorun not found on Video DVD.
Bad sector protection not found.
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 2!

However if I back it up I will need a PAL dvd-player to view on regular TV

Re: Updated DVDRW Firmware, now out-of-region DVD's won't play

Thanks for the help!! I think I previously had TDB FW loaded; hope I haven't broken anything by downloading the update...

Btw, Dangerous Brothers' site seems to be down?

We just moved here from the US. Need to be able to access Region 1 and 2 DVD's. If TDB website comes back I'll try that, but isn't AnyDVD supposed to acheive the same result??

Re: Moderators: Please remove if inappropriate

This may help the region coding problem:

http://www.remoteselector.com/download.htm

Once installed, go to the CONTROL tab and check all three boxes. I have this program start after 15 seconds and it runs in the background. I've never had a conflict with this. I don't know whether the VHS macroguard blocker works, as I don't have VHS connected to my computer.

It is much more reliable than DVD43, which I had to delete long before I got AnyDVD. Oh, yeah---it's free...
