Unusual subtitle and audio in extras

Honestly, I don't know whether this is an issue with AnyDVD or not, however I first noticed it after installing the AnyDVD trial (6.0.8.5) a few days ago in order to backup the DaVinci Code, which I found DVDShrink could not do on its own.

Basically, under the extras section, DVDShrink lists 32 subpicture tracks, usually all unspecified and at 0 MB. It also lists quite a number of audio tracks that are 0 MB, as well.

On the DaVinci Code, I figured this was due to the weird formatting used as part of its copy protection, so I ignored it. However, today, after trying to backup some of my older DVDs, I encountered the same listings. These DVDs are years old, though, with none of the my advanced copy protection.... so I figured it had to be something else.

Here's a screenshot of what I'm talking about. I'd apprecaite it anyone could shed some light on it.

That screenshot, by the way, is from DVDShrink's assessment of the Original Transformers, Season 3/4 Volume 2, already compressed to the hard drive. It looked exactly the same from the CD, though. I've considered just deselecting all those "0 MB" audio and subititle tracks, but I'd rather know what they are first.

Looks as there are discrepancies in some VMGM/VTSI_MAP tables in the IFO files.

Guess there is a problem in AnyDVD if it's not correcting the values to what is really used by the PGCs.

If you have the DVD files ripped to your harddisk you could open up them in PgcEdit and let that program fix the tables/IFO files for you and then they should be gone when you reopen them in DVD Shrink.

Re: Unusual subtitle and audio in extras

Yeah, the same thing happened to me with an old (3 years) Belgian R2 disc. When I tried to read wuith DVDshrink, it said there was a problem and I couldn't go on. I tried again, first unchecking everything I didn't want, and everything went smoothly.

I figured it was a problem with the 6.0.8.5. download mentioned in another thread, and reverted to 6.0.8.2. It didn't happen with the one commercial disc I've worked with since, so maybe I'm half right. Were you using 6.0.8.5. when you found your problem?

Yeah, I'm using 6.0.8.5. The additional subtitle and audio tracks haven't prevented me from backing up the few discs I've tried, though... it's just kind of annoying having these pointless things sitting there.

Re: Unusual subtitle and audio in extras

I tried downloading and installing AnyDVD 6.0.8.2 and the extra audio and subititle tracks were still there... then I uninstalled AnyDVD completely, however they also remained after that. So I went through the registry searching for and erasing any references to SlySoft or AnyDVD, and they were still there, lol. After each measure to try and get rid of them I erased DVDShrink's records of all the previous analyses that it's done and let it rescan the same Transormers disc.

So either AnyDVD left something weird on my computer which affects the way DVDShrink analyzes the data, or it wasn't a problem with AnyDVD at all. I have no idea... I've since tried another movie (theatrical version of Empire Strikes Back), and it had none of the weird audio and subtitle tracks on it, so perhaps it was the Transformers discs themselves... is it possible for a disc to be this way, and cause the problem I had itself?
