Trouble Backing Up PULSE (Kairo)

Hey guys I am having trouble backing up the import version of PULSE...Its not a jap region, but rather it is what the 2005 US release of pulse was based on. Similar to The Grudge/Ju-on.

I am using ANYDVD 6.1.0.1. trying to use DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 to rip an iso to my harddrive.

THIS IS MY ANYDVD STATUS

Summary for drive E: (AnyDVD 6.1.0.1)
Drive (Hardware) Region: 1

Media is a Data DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (opposite)
Size of first Layer: 2032288 sectors (3969 MBytes)
Total size: 3595774 sectors (7022 MBytes)

Video DVD (or CD) label: PULSE
Media is not CSS protected.
Video Standard: NTSC
Media is locked to region(s): 1!

RCE protection not found.
DVD structure appears to be correct.
Structural copy protection not found.
Autorun not found on Video DVD.
Bad sector protection not found.
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1!

EDIT: Trouble isnt very descriptive. When i back it up..it backs up fine until about 45-50 pecent. And starts to "retry" the disc is brand new...so scratches arent the problem

Thanks for any help/...

Re: Trouble Backing Up PULSE (Kairo)

Older versions of Anydvd handled this title without issue. Posting a log might be useful--or at least an error message.

In fact, I doubt the problem has very much to do with Anydvd, because as I recall this title wasn't even protected, which seems to be confirmed by what you posted.

Chances are you have a bad original disc that needs to be exchanged. Just because the disc looks fine doesn't mean it is.

I will see if the store will exchange it. I cant very well say that it didnt want to be copied...

Whats the best method of attack..It plays fine in my dvd player.

Out of curiosity, did you try disabling Anydvd? I don't think you need to use it on this title.

I would just say there appears to be some quality control issue with the disc. You don't have to tell the store it plays fine.

You should give us (here at cdfeaks) some error message, a decrypter log, or something first though, I think.

He's saying to right-click on the fox icon in your toolbar and select "rip video-dvd to harddisk"--but doing so won't create an iso.

Re: Trouble Backing Up PULSE (Kairo)

1. The best way to rip using Anydvd is to use Clonedvd2. If you can't or are not willing to do that, this is how you rip using Anydvd:

2. With the latest version of Anydvd running, drag and drop the video_ts folder to your desktop using Windows Explorer. Alternatively, you don't need to rip at all and can just directly import the disc into whatever burning application you want, provided Anydvd is running in the background. You don't necessarily need to rip first at all. Not having to rip first at all is one major advantage of using Anydvd.

3. If you can't get what you want using #1 and #2 first, then you right click on the fox icon on your toolbar and select rip video-dvd to hard disk--but only if methods 1 and 2 fail first. This method uses an old version of FixVTS, which is often not required.

I don't have experience with this movie but the OP could quickly check to see if the disc is faulty by ripping it using the same method w/o AnyDVD at all if it was unprotected. If it plays fine from the HD then we know there is an AnyDVD problem. If it errors w/o AnyDVD then we can move forward and debug elsewhere (ie burning software, dvd burner, etc).

PS: Edited because I made some errors between what I meant to say and what I actually typed. My brain wasn't working so well.

Really though, decrypter and Anydvd should work fine on unprotected titles. Based on the description in the original post, decrypter is encountering read errors, which why I wanted to see a log--and the reason why I also suspect the original disc might be at fault. Until the OP answers some of my questions though, I can't be certain.

I agree that they should work together fine and you are right it appears there are read errors. My suggestion is a quick and crude method of either proving AnyDVD was at fault or not. Sorry, it's just how my brain works when I try to resolve problems myself before I ask for help from others If the problem goes away when AnyDVD isn't used then we know AnyDVD was involved. Hopefully this is not the case and can be resolved.

Of course, you are likely right but, well, I thought I'd offer some advice in removing at least one possible cause from the equation

I agree. That's one reason why in that link I asked if the OP tried disabling Anydvd.

Or if anything from http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...44&postcount=9 works, then I can also eliminate Anydvd from being the problem (amongst other things).
