Speed control not working.

I am evaluating AnyDVD to see if it does what I want, which are making a dvd drive region free and slowing down the same drive when reading a movie from CD (So far, I've been able to do these things separately using different software packages, but not both at once).

AnyDVD seems to be just the ticket, but unfortunately the drive speed control portion of the software doesn't seem to work for me. I've enabled speed control from the "drive" tab and played around with different combinations of speed settings for the DVD/CD/Other disc types, but no matter what I do, when accessing a CD the drive spins up to full speed and stays there.

I have succesfully controlled the speed of this same drive using both CDRomTool and Nero DriveSpeed.

Is this a matter of AnyDVD simply not supporting my drive, or are there other settings I can play around with?

For any Slysoft people reading this: This is a buy/no buy issue for me. If it ends up working I'll be happy to spend $39.

Re: Speed control not working.

I'm experiencing a similar problem to Jeroen - although on a different model dvd drive. Mine is a pioneer 105s. I have read that other owners of the drive have had probs getting it to run quiet, but not turned up any solutions. As Jeroen said, is it just a case of anydvd not currently supporting this model of drive, or is speed control not possible with this model by any means???

Cheers,

Bascombe

Re: Speed control not working.

Just for completeness sake, my DVD drive is reported by DriveInfo as "ATAPI DVD-ROM 16x 422N", which according to someone at the site I got the firmware update is really a Relisys/Teco DVD-8216.

Re: Speed control not working.

I would like to emphasize that at any given moment I have only ONE speed control program running at the same time.

(Just thought I'd mention it since Slysoft support sent me an email explaining this, making me think it's a common mistake).

Re: Speed control not working.

Speed control doesn't work on my AnyDVD either... Nero DriveSpeed works if I start it... But AnyDVDs speed control doesn't work... I have Hitachi GD-8000 RPC1 DVD-ROM.

Re: Speed control not working.

I've given up on AnyDVD for now. Slysoft insists it must be another program interfering, while I insist there is quite simply no other program running. Not region killer, not DriveSpeed, not any other program, either as a normal application or as a service/background app.

Too bad, since it was just what I was looking for.
