Re: Slysoft may have F*ed AnyDVD up with 6.3.1.2

The new CA (Computer Associates 2008 Internet Security Suite) A/V and firewall updates everyday. I just loaded it the other day and it takes some getting used to.....to get it set like i want. When you run the setup it pretty much locks my pc down.

Anyway my IP gives it to their customers free so that why i'm using it. http://shop.ca.com/malware/internet_security_suite.aspx

Personally if you use a hardware firewall there is no need for a software firewall, in fact Linksys and out routers tell you to disable the software firewalls because they might conflict.

Nope not mine as ZA won't and still don't run on the 64 bit platform.

I have Linksys as well. I recommend it to all my friends but netgear is just as good too.

Re: Slysoft may have Fixed AnyDVD with 6.3.1.2

Yes like I said if it wasn't for a friend to give me a legit serial I would still be using Comodo, AVG and Windows Defender. Well I still let WD do it's thing but of course it finds nothing.

all those + deep freeze (faronics.c*m)
and you will never have to worry about a single malware ever again
just reboot and everything is as before

Re: Slysoft may have Fixed AnyDVD with 6.3.1.2

Like I said before , if you use a router and have it in " WEP" mode you do not need a firewall at all, I even suggest disabling the Windows Firewall when using a hardware firewall.

How will WEP mode prevent proggys from dialing the mother ship???

I think a firewall is mandatory

I think I saw a PC show where the guy broke into a WEP mode PC in less than 10 minutes

That's why you need to use WPA and create a 63 character password. WEP is useless.

Re: Slysoft may have Fixed AnyDVD with 6.3.1.2

both WEP and WPA are encryption protocols to prevent unauthorized users from using your router broadcasted internet, it has nothing do to with firewall features

and WEP is very easily hacked

I use my free IP http://shop.ca.com/malware/internet_security_suite.aspx that they give me and i monitor what comes in and goes out with it. With hardware firewall you never see what a software firewall sees.

Yes i have a wired/wireless router/hardware firewall.

Most of the major router companys, Cisco included tell you that having a hardware firewall and a software firewall conflict. To each his own.

I think it would probably be best to use both a hardware and software firewall... don't you think?

Alan
you can correct me if I am wrong
but I don't think the common wireless routers are true hardware firewalls.
True hardware firewalls that I have seen reviewed are stand alone sophisticated equipment and offer many of the features of software wirewalls.
If one had a true hardware firewall like I am sure Cisco and other large firms do, then a software firewall would be redundant and could cause conflicts as you mentioned.

All you have to do is a little research, when Cisco installed our router system in my company they told us that software firewall were not needed and would conflict with the better hardware firewall in the router. Like I said before its all for the user to decide. Every configuration is different. Do what you think is best for you.
