Slow DVD Burning possibly due to AnyDVD 6.0.7.0

Hi,

I've recently installed the latest version of Nero 7.5 and updated my registered version of AnyDVD to 6.0.7.0

In the lat couple of days I've noticed my machine taking ages to burn a 4.35GB disc, approx 16 mins when I swear it used to take around 8 mins to burn at 8x

Has anyone else experienced a problem like this, the media is the same as before, and the only reason I upgraded Nero was DVD Shrink was having problems when doing the burn phase.

The reason I think it might be AnyDVD is other dvd software I have (TMPG DVD Author 2.0) takes just as long nowadays compared to before, so I dont think its the upgrading of Nero which caused this.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Rob

Have you checked to see if your DMA is configured properly? http://forum.digital-digest.com/show...threadid=44808

Cheers for the advice, I'll look when I get home from work and see what the settings are.

Would upgrading Nero cause this to be change?

You can rule out AnyDVD. It has no influence on burning at all.

I've checked and its not the DMA settings, so it's looking like its a feature of Nero 7.5. Don't understand why though..

I disagree. Run a quality test on a 8x disc burned at 8x versus one burned at 4x.

BK24, the reason if tells you to disable AnyDVD (same as ImgBurn) is for the reason if can stuff up the verifying.

The slower the speed you burn at, the less risk there is of stuffing up, causing a coaster. The recommended speed to burn at is 4x, that's the speed I always burn at.

Who stated that the recommended speed to burn at is 4X speed? The blank DVD Media manufacture and/or the DVD Burner Manufacture did not make that statement.

Slower is not always better. “Slower Is Better” philosophy was valid in the infancy of CD/DVD burning. The newer quality blank DVD Media, Newer DVD Burners with buffers, and Newer DVD Burner Firmware write strategies technology are all optimized to burn data at or near the rated speed of the blank DVD Media. The Manufactures strive to produce DVD Burners and quality blank DVD Media that support the higher speeds that their customers desire and demand. They spend an enormous amount of time, effort, research and money to produce quality products to meet the specifications that they advertise.

If you visit the various CD Freaks DVD Burner Sub Forums and review the Quality Scans posted there you will find that the Quality Scans support this fact. When visiting the various CD Freaks DVD Burner Sub Forums note the comments that the knowledgeable experienced Forum Members make concerning slow burning speed verse burning at or near the rated Media speed.

If you find that you need to burn quality DVD Media at a speed significantly slower than the rated speed of the DVD Media you might ask yourself why. Quality DVD Media and DVD Burner hardware was specifically designed and engineered to burn the DVD Media at its rated speed.

@BeLooken
Amen to that!
I get consistent 98 quality scores, burning MCC 004 at 16X, with my BenQ 1650.
4X with this combination gives miserable quality scores.
However, I do have a pc and burner that can support the faster speeds.
You need to have the right burner, firmware, media combination, for the capabilities of your equipment.
My 4X machine is archived in the basement.

Hi BK24
What version of Nero gives you this warning? I am using 7.O.8.2 Burning Rom, and have no poblems with Anydvd being on.
I have held off upgrading due to my slow connection speed with my internet connection. Did this problem surface in the later versions? Maybe I should stick with what is working......

Woh, no need to attack me. From my experience, with my burns and reading other posts (ImgBurn forum, Doom9, digital-digest) 4x is the happy medium. Not everyone has fast computers and some people do some CPU intensive stuff while burning, so that can cause errors. I still think 4x is the best speed to burn at. Not need to have a go at me and spout all these facts when I'm trying to help someone.

Sorry to the people in this thread who were trying to get some honest help.

I'm still on the final version of Nero 6. Can't bring myself to get 7 with all the bug reports and complaints from users on it. And considering 6 still does the job fine...

Yes, there have been many bugs. I bought 7 last winter for a straight out price of 39.99 with no rebates to wait for. I had previously used an OEM version of 6, that came with a drive. At that price I felt it was worth a gamble that one day the problems would be fixed. I think it would be a hard sell for Nero to sell Nero 8, if 7 isn't worked out. The price was right, and there was a lot of bang for the buck. I especially like the iPOD profile that was added to Recode.

I've got 7, just refuse to install it for the time being. Got it from Newegg for 19.99 AR. I agree on getting it fixed but look how long 6 was around before 7 came out.
