IF you re-read post #1 and #2 OP specifically states he cannot make a full movie backup of Saw3 with current versions of AD and CloneDvd.
If later on he managed to "find" another program that worked, that is fine and well, but the original problem of this thread has not been solved

Hope the movie is better than the authoring - I liked the first 2.
@blu, looking at the IFOs, isn't VTS 15 & 99 the same as VTS 8, except for the commands? So in a way VTS 15,99 are valid but unreferenced and VTS 16-98 are illegal IFOs.

Maybe this has happened but I'm waiting for the studios to corrupt the first or middle VTS rather than the end. While they're at it, throw in the ARccOS stuff in the middle of the movie rather than the beginning and the end of it. This will be fun for the rippers. If they can corrupt and make it play on DVD players, we can fix it to comply the DVD specs.

The reason I mention this is because the version of FixVTS that's incoporated into Anydvd ripper hasn't been updated for awhile--while the standalone version of FixVTS has just been updated very recently. So, in order to test this properly, no one should be using Anydvd ripper. After dragging and dropping the video_ts folder to your desktop using Anydvd, try running that folder you just ripped through FixVTS 1.603.
As far as I know Slysoft cannot update fixvts because it is now copyrighted as a free software and they cannot use it if they don't want to pay Jean who made fixvts.

Not exactly. It's GPL which means that if AnyDVD made use of it, they'd have to post their source code. Being a commercial product, that's obviously not going to happen.

Yeah, and by the way, SparkySpark, I wasn't complaining about Anydvd ripper not being updated with the latest version of FixVTS. At the time I was explaining why using the latest version might offer different results than using Anydvd ripper.

Nobody suggested you were! Your suggestion to run vts files thru fixvts were quite reasonable.

Re: saw3

The latest version of FixVTS IAW the homepage,

Quote:
FixVTS 1.603
Added better handling of address exceptions for IFOs that are severely mangled.
In Full DVD process mode, VTS 99 was excluded from the loop. It is now processed with all the other titlesets.

From my analysis AnyDVD should do it correctly - it replaces VTS 99 with a valid titleset with valid pgc with a valid cell to keep everyone happy, while keeping all virtual commands as they were, including setting of registers.
However, it is possible that I overlooked something. It is always a little hard to crack this stuff without the disc for testing.
As soon as I have the physical disc, I'll check again.

Re: saw3

@toaddub - ALL VTSs between 16 and 99 inclusive are corrupt. So any ripper which parses IFOs (I guess this includes all of them) needs to not choke at this stage. It also needs to adjust bad pointers (which seems to be the latest favourite trick).

Now, in Saw 3, all VTSs from 15 on are crap and totally useless - EXCEPT VTS 99 whose root menu is called once briefly when the DVD is started - this is SONY's way of making sure you keep it and the other crap from VTS 15-98 inclusive. The fact that several copies of the movie are there in different VTSs simply means the bitrate for the real flick in VTS 8 is probably lower than it could be - shame on them!

Once you have ripped this DVD, you might like to clean up its structure with PgcEdit (get beta 15). Use the Delete Uncalled PGCs function (there are hundreds of them).

Regards

Strange, with Talladega Nights (US) there is no problem (AnyDVD & elby CloneDVD2).

T Nights, R1 (all its versions) were different corruption to Saw 3. And to prove how unimportant we are downunder, R4 was CSS protected only

BTW: Pick yourself up a copy of Open Season, too. It is very similar to Saw 3 - over 2,000 uncalled PGCs and bad pointers galore.

Re: saw3

TO SLYSOFT:
There seems to be a similar protection on the German dvd "Die Chaoscamper". It has over 90 VTS's.

Here a link to german (sorry!!!) forum.
I know that there are some guys at slysoft who can speak german.
It seems to work with the new fixvts.

Re: saw3

The movie will be relased in Region 1 on Tuesday. I am sure any problems that users might encounter will be addressed by then. There are different protections in different regions ( sometimes), it might take a day or two but AnyDVD will be on top of it as they always have been.

Re: saw3

My 1st back up was full disc (R1 Full screen) and I too got stuck on one spot I decided to delete that file ( I think it's a preview plus last 3 files). It went just fine. But now it couldn't be played on home DVD player but I can play it back on pc but it took awhile to read. I decided to back up just movie only. Now it can be play back on home DVD player.
