| Ripping Slow Since Purchasing AnyDVD- Up to 32 Hours Hello, I have been using DVD Shrink for 18 months now with no problems. Yesterday downloaded AnyDVD to help with the sony disks and hey presto i could get the disks to run. Except! Now it takes 32 hours (Emily Rose) to burn the film to the HD. So used DVDFAB decrypter to burn it to the HD which was quicker. Then using DVD Shrink accessing files rather than the actual disk took same amount of time. Saw 2 was a little better at 4 hours but failed in buring stage. I have looked at everything my settings have not changed and even disabled AnyDVD! I am at a loss as what to do and searched many forums for advise. Please, please help me!! |

| Re: Ripping Slow Since Purchasing AnyDVD- Up to 32 Hours he means the ripping speed from burner to hard drive. Use dvd decrypter to rip them to the hard drive. You will need anydvd to be running for many of the new release dvd's though. |

| Re: Ripping Slow Since Purchasing AnyDVD- Up to 32 Hours There could be a conflict if he had dvd43 on there at one time too.

| Re: Ripping Slow Since Purchasing AnyDVD- Up to 32 Hours Yes, could be a dma thing or like dr.who mentioned dvd43. Also i'd fragment the hd and check your system for spyware, which could sometimes cause slow ripping.

| Re: Ripping Slow Since Purchasing AnyDVD- Up to 32 Hours Thank you but i am a bit of an amateur i don't know how to switch the DMA mode on and off. Just had a look in properties of DVD writer but could not see anything. I will do a spyware search and defragment hard drive too. It might help as i have tried everything else. Oh except stuff i don't understand. |

Slow reads & PIO mode! Go to 1. My Computer 2. Control Panel 3. System 4. Hardware 5. Device Manager 6. IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers 7. Open the installed IDE channels (Primary and Secondary) 8. Click on Advanced settings 9. You will see the transfer mode. If any are PIO you need to un-install the channel (right click and choose uninstall) and re-boot. Windows will reinstall the device and return it to DMA mode. 10. Be careful when using this procedure because if you have an older hard drive or storage device that does not support DMA you could corrupt your data. http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;817472 It's pretty simple. If it says DMA Mode then you're ok. as for the few affiliated dvd43 files good job. You might want to run this too it will boost your boot time and run apps faster too. http://www.snapfiles.com/get/regseeker.html This cleans your registery and doesn't affect the ones needed.

| Re: Ripping Slow Since Purchasing AnyDVD- Up to 32 Hours Thank you for step by step instructions. It was running in DMA mode both primary an d secondary. I uninstalled and rebooted anyway to see if it needed a kick start. But this did not work! I have been at this now for a total of 14 hours and am running out of ideas. I will try snapfiles and see if that helps. Oh i had a glimmer of hope as it did speed up at the begining of backup process but it soon slowed down withe the KB/s dropping from about 8000 to about 250 thus the write time went up to about three hours!! |

| Re: Ripping Slow Since Purchasing AnyDVD- Up to 32 Hours Try system restore AD sets a restore prior to installation try going back to a point prior to that if not then I think it would be easier to re-install windows at this point |

| Re: Ripping Slow Since Purchasing AnyDVD- Up to 32 Hours Just for kicks and grins, perhaps try uninstalling / unloading ANYDVD completely, then do an error check on the drive, delete any temp files, defrag then after the last reboot, try going into Device Manager and deleting first all your hard drives and optical drives, then your IDE controllers and reboot and let Windows XP re-discover them. Then you may want to try re-installing your motherboard chipset drivers and see what happens. BTW, you may also want to try the RipIt4Me front end for DVD Decrypter to see if DVD Decrypter is at fault or if perhaps AnyDVD was. Best of luck. BTW, here is the text of another post to help you with RipIt4Me: Okay. I downloaded the following files: RipIt4Me Version 1.4.13.0 http://www.ripit4me.org/download.html FixVTS Version 1.5 http://www.videohelp.com/~FixVTS/ and of course had the last version of DVD Decrypter (3.5.4.0) already installed. All I did was place the small, self-contained RipIt4Me (409,600 bytes) and FixVTS (114,688 bytes) executables in the DVD Decrypter folder and from there, placed the DVD into the drive and closed the drive door (while holding down the shift key) and after the drive light was all done blinking, took my hand off the shift key and started the RipIt4Me app. I followed the wizard, processed it with FixVTS when prompted and the disk was backed up successfully - no problem at all. Plays in my WinDVD app right off the hard drive without incident. DVD Decrypter by itself was unable to rip the disk when I tried it. So, I have an alternative, yet totally FREE, method of backing up more of my disks. |
