REQ: True autoupdate function for AnyDVD

With AnyDVD being updated quite frequently, it would be nice to have a true autoupdate function built in, not just the "notify me" thing. I'd love to be able to have AnyDVD check for updates on a daily basis and have them installed automatically. Any idea if this might happen?

Personally, I think the actual execution of an update should be by human choice, not automatic. Just auto notification is fine for most users. Many people watch these threads for issues before updating. These boards provide update notification and information about new releases (members JUMP to be the first to post new release info minutes after SS's site is updated with a new version). Also, autoupdating by any software can cause burning issues dependent on timing.

Also many users backup on standalone boxes to avoid burning problems due to unwanted "always on" internet connection processor/data activity or conflicts from other software and drivers on their "main machine" ... their updates are done by flash drive downloads from a box that is hooked up.

An Auto-Update feature would be OK, but give us the choice turn it on or off.

Re: REQ: True autoupdate function for AnyDVD

I also like Whisperer1 have a dedicated Computer null and void of any InterNet connection to prevent Burning problems due to unnecessary "Always On" InterNet connection processor/data activity.

I don’t want AnyDVD or any other software programming attempting to “Call Home” when I am conducting my DVD backup copying and screwing up the DVD backup copying process.

If in fact this Auto-Update feature is incorporated please give the customer the option to totally disable this Call Home Auto-Update feature to prevent Burning Errors that this feature could cause if AnyDVD stated to download an AnyDVD update while the customer was in the process of Burning a DVD backup copy.

I personally believe this Call Home Auto-Update feature is unnecessary and instead of improving the AnyDVD software program could possibly cause problems.

I agree hate those programs that go on the internet without asking.

Yeah, being able to autoupdate off should be an option, just like it is now for the current notification system.

Re: REQ: True autoupdate function for AnyDVD

I think it would be great if AnyDVD allowed for modular updates, like anti-virus software. I would rather run an updater within AnyDVD instead of d/l'ing and installing a new version of the program each time a change is made (excepting major changes, of course). I don't like "auto-updates" either, but you don't have to choose between the app updating at an inopportune moment and giving up on this functionality completely. AnyDVD can continue to check for available updates just as it does now, if you choose to allow it. The actual update should be done manually for the purpose of timing it when you want. In any case, it seems to me that most of the code in any given AnyDVD update is redundant, as only small changes are made in the majority of new versions. Splitting it between a resident portion that remains between minor updates and a "patchable" portion would make deployments of updates a lot more efficient. To me, AnyDVD fits into a category more similar to anti-virus apps than anything else. Just as there are always new strains of malware being discovered, so are there new "strains" of RipGaurd, ARccOS, Puppetlock, invalid DVD structures and other attempts to abridge Fair Use rights. Personally, I'd be willing to pay extra for such a service.
