A question about AnyDVD Hi all, I had been having some problems with DVDFab and one of the members here had suggested that I try AnyDVD. I downloaded it and ripped a movie and was surprised when it went on to burn a copy as I was of the impression that the software would rip it only. I wound up copying two movies with this and neither of them play, the player indicates that the disc is blank. From what the instruction say the software will only work if I have all the proper information entered...basically implying that it's foolproof. Am I correct thinking that this is for ripping only, and if this is the case where is the file stored, I don't see it in the C drive. Can someone please help me figure this one out? Thanks, dc3

Re: A question about AnyDVD anydvd can only rip, not burn. right click the red fox icon and select rip video dvd to HDD click the folders at the end of the white bars there you will have browse to your dvd (source) and you will also have a destination folder, which you will have to create someplace, like my documents

Re: A question about AnyDVD AnyDVD doesn't even rip, it is a driver only that runs in the background cracking encryption as the disc is ripped to your HDD via a ripping engine. It does employ a ripper feature from FixVTS, but AnyDVD by itself will do nothing more than break encryption. You then have to use a program such as DVD Shrink, Nero Recode or CloneDVD to compress and then your favorite burn engine to get the files onto a disc. It is likely that the DVD's you backed up are indeed blank as it doens't appear by your statements you ever used a burning app.

Re: A question about AnyDVD This is beginning to sound like the scene in "A Day at the Races" where Groucho has been sold a book on betting by Chico only to find out that he will have to buy another book from hime to use the first one, and then yet another to use the second one. The difference here is that the Marx movie was funny.

It's a moot point now, I am getting some assistance in obtaining another copy of DVDFab and will go back to using it. When I built my new computer two weeks ago I wiped my hdd prior to installing it in the new build, and I downloaded DVDFab only to have it fail, twice. | |

You are absolutely right, I hadn't tumbled to the fact that I had made an error until there had been several replies. Being a senior citizen I'll just write it off as a mental fart. Thank you for the links, I'll peruse them later when I have a little more time.I would like to just say that I'm very impressed not only with the amount of support that I've found at this site, but also the level of competency exhibited here. ![]() | |

Re: A question about AnyDVD A final note, I copied tree movies last night using DVD Shrink and had the same problem of pixelation that I had been experiencing before. So it looks like my problems are with my NEC 3550A. The good news if that the unit was three days out of warranty and Newegg still honored it and sent me a RMA number this morning.

Re: A question about AnyDVD dc3. The problem regarding pixelation may have nothing to do with your burner but more so the amount of compression. Try downloading DVD-Rebuilder (freeware version) and compress the movie with HCenc. This will give you a much better looking DVD.

Re: A question about AnyDVD dc3 - I have totally read all of your 30 Forum postings and from the information you have provided in those postings I doubt your pixelation problem is caused by your NEC ND-3550A. Best Regards, bjkg

Re: A question about AnyDVD Dc Have you considered bad or incompatible media as a cause of you problems what is your media?? can you post the codes? Tayu Yuden + a few others are considered the best media and all other media is basically crap To help you burn and rip try this procedure [A] turn off all other unneccessary program and all video/dvd programs start anydvd latest version start clondvd and choose option 1 "copy dvd title" and browse to your dvdrom dvd title when it finishes loading the movie make sure dvd +/-R DL is selected in the quality window at bottom middle of clonedvd screen hit next keep only main english audio and subtitle and deselect all others hit next select output method "dvd files" and select a folder to rip to hit Go to start ripping [b] when rip is fished, check the size of the rip if 4.35gb or less go to [C] if greater than 4.35 gb use dvd shrink to compress it to single layer 4.35gb size and call this rip2 and then go to [C] burn to dvd (when above item [b] is finished start clonedvd pick option 3 ie Write existing data browse to your rip select speed 4x or 8x and start writing finished in about 10 minutes Enjoy

Re: A question about AnyDVD Thanks for the responses. I will try another brand of media, but I don't understand why after thirty successful burns with the same media I would have nine consecutive failures. The media is Ritek Redata 18x DVD+R, I purchased and split a 100 count cake box with a friend three months ago, my friend has not had a problem. I don't understand why I would have problems with compression, I have used DVD Shrink on movies of similar length without problems. Two out of the three movies were less than two hours in length. What keeps bugging me is the coincidence of all this happening after I built this computer three weeks ago. The only problem that I could associate with that would be a driver, but that doesn't make sense, I would think it would either work or not. I'm now thinking about an exorcism. Edit: Last night I ordered a 100 count of 8x DVD-R by Verbatim from Newegg, it should be here Tuesday.

Re: A question about AnyDVD dc3, if you want to minimize headaches use the following: 1. Anydvd 2. Clonecd 3. Verbatim + R DL blanks with 4. a burner that allows bitsetting to dvd-rom No headaches, less time spent transcoding, perfect uncompressed picture while preserving the original layer break position . . . Just a couple of clicks. But this solution does cost more money.
