Problems Burning DVD

Hi there,

I'm very new to dvd copying ripping, having just got a writer and software. I'm using AnyDVD in conjunction with NERO 6, the DVD seems to be ripped fine, but when i try and burn it the file is too big over 7 gigs. Friends of mine have ripped and burned the same DVDs at under 4 gigs with the same software. Can anyone tell me where i'm going wrong?
And is the problem with AnyDVD or maybe Nero?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Problems Burning DVD

you ripped the disc fine, now you need a program that compresses the data to fit onto a single layer disc. (or you can go out and buy dual layer discs to burn everything without compression, but that's pretty costly at the moment)

clonedvd2 from www.slysoft.com is a great complement to anydvd and takes care of compression. It costs money, but there's a 21 day free trial for new users.

dvd shrink is a free alternative, but is no longer supported and therefore has a few problems with some newer titles.

since you mentioned that you have nero, you might also have nero recode. That works as well. The developer that made dvd shrink went to work for nero on recode. This program has a lot of the same problems as dvd shrink though so it's very infrequently updated.

That's only a few of the many options. Those are the only programs I'm familiar with though. Others may have different recommendations. you might want to browse the software section of the forum or also the cdfreaks site to get an idea of what you think you'd like.
