Problems with AnyDVD/DVD Shrink, Movie "The Net 2"

Used the function in AnyDVD (5.9.4.1) to rip to hard drive. Ripped it. Opened DVD Shrink. Got this error;

Quote:
DVD Shrink encounted an error and cannot continue: Failed to open file E:\DVD Burning\Ripped\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.VOB. The system cannot file the file specified.
When looking at the original DVD movie in Windows Explorer, I can see that "VIDEO_TS.VOB" file but in the ripped folder it's not there.

This movie ("The Net 2", Region 1) is a "Sony Pictures Home Entertainment" DVD movie.

Any ideas?

I did end up successfully burning this movie but I had to use Vobblanker. I processed those ripped files through Vobblanker (the whole thing) and then checked the vobblanker backup folder and it put the VIDEO_TS.VOB file back in and then DVD Shrink had no further problems with it. So how come AnyDVD isn't doing it?

Re: Problems with AnyDVD/DVD Shrink, Movie "The Net 2"

Now this is weird. Just for the hell of it, I disabled AnyDVD and ran the movie through DVD Decrypter. I was expected some errors along the way (and have to use the pfcEdit with plug in deal) but got none, nor any skipped files (and that VIDEO_TS.VOB file was in ripped folder). DVD Shrink then opened it with no problems.

So this movie does not even have the new Arcoss protection (being DVD Decrypter could still decrypt it without using PfcEdit/plugin).

For some reason the AnyDVD ripper function is skipping that VIDEO_TS.VOB file.

I'd love to hear a Slysoft rep come in with comments. I did send the .ifo files to them.

BTW. On another note, it would be helpful if those instructions for sending in info to Slysoft would be stickied in this forum. I had forgotten how to do that and had to search a lot of threads to find the instructions again (I don't even see those instructions on the Slysoft website). I printed them out now for myself (since sometimes my memory fails me) but a sticky would be really convenient for those who might need to do this.

Just download it and run it it is very simple. About as simple as using shrink or dvd decrypter.

Nope google VOBBLANKER and download and use it there is no step by step instructions. [Sarcasm] My 2 week old could run it.[/Sarcasm]

They do have the help file so if you need it built into the program if I remember right.

I wasn't trying to be rude or anything just being blunt.

if you're referring to Dr. Who's response on how to use VOBBlanker to rectify your issue then it really is that simple.

open the program. point to the dvd files in the input box. select an output folder. then press process.

lol sorry i thought you replied to the original poster about anydvd being easy to use,i didn't understand that you were talking to me,sorry my bad.

I processed the files with vob blanker, but i still get no video_ts.vob.Although dvdshrink can now open it,i still get no video_ts.vob,and it really is a matter of anydvd ripper not doing a proper job.

then send the IFO files to slysoft with a link to this thread.

disable anydvd
navigate to the VIDEO_TS folder
copy all of the IFO files to the desktop
zip them up
send as an attachment to support(at)slysoft(dot)com with a very detailed explanation of the issue.

alerting slysoft of problems is the only way to rectify these things.

i'm not saying you, but it's so often that people are content to sit back and complain and point out flaws but do nothing to get the necessary information to the people that can help because it involves a tiny bit of effort on their part.

Re: Problems with AnyDVD/DVD Shrink, Movie "The Net 2"

This situation has been rectified awhile back. Just make sure the box is unchecked in the AnyDVD ripper ("Remove unreferenced and blank cells") and the missing .vob will end up in the ripped folder. Slysoft now has this box unchecked by default where in earlier versions it was checked.

BTW, Recode 2 will process it without the VIDEO_TS.Vob file being there, DVD Shrink will not.

thanks for returning with the update!

now that you've posted the solution, this thread is a more valuable reference tool and there's no need to bother slysoft about the same issue again

Re: Problems with AnyDVD/DVD Shrink, Movie "The Net 2"

Yep. I had originally posted this awhile back and hardly got any responses to it. It then happened on a few more movies. Once I got the skinny about that check box (because during that time when I was using the ripper function, the AnyDVD versions had that box checked), I never had that issue again.

I was on the ripper kick for awhile but since have just been using Recode 2 (with AnyDVD) to encode straight from the DVD (without ripping to hard drive first) and everything has been working out peachy keen.

Re: Problems with AnyDVD/DVD Shrink, Movie "The Net 2"

That VIDEO_TS.VOB file is unreferenced - a fake file. One of the ARccOS protection tricks. Normally that file is played before you get to the menus of the main movie. I guess if you try to play it - it will contain pure black video.

A good ripper don't include it in the rip. So I guess the AnyDVD Ripper is just doing it job. The problem is that also the .IFO files needs to be corrected so that they no longer includes that there should be a VIDEO_TS.VOB file. Nero is one program that will cry about that "missing" VIDEO_TS.VOB file. But even if you ignore that "error message" and burn your DVD with the missing file - the playback will be good.

Hope this explains something about the VIDEO_TS.VOB mystery.

Re: Problems with AnyDVD/DVD Shrink, Movie "The Net 2"

I didn't find that Recode 2 had any issues with a missing VIDEO_TS.Vob. Every time I've had that issue, Recode 2 processed it fine without it. DVD Shrink is the one that had problems with it not being there (it would generate an error and would not process it). I would think that's because of DVD Shrink not being updated anymore to address this issue that was not there when DVD Shrink was in its prime. Recode 2 evidently has it figured out. Recode 2 is also more efficient than DVD Shrink. DVD Shrink takes 100% cpu power to analyze/encode (which causes some heating issues for some systems) and Recode 2 takes less than 50%.

In all my experiences I post about, I'm always talking about making movie only because that is the only way I make copies. Dunno if it's any different copying the whole thing.

Could very well be that Nero Recode got an update/fix for the problem.

If you only do movie onlies backup - the menus are not included - and the problem will not happen.

Well I guess that would explain it then. With Recode 2, using the movie only setting, I guess it only scans the movie (at the beginning) where with DVD Shrink it scans the whole disk and then the movie is selected. So I guess then that Recode 2 would not even be looking for a VIDEO_TS.Vob?

Try process the whole DVD with Recode 2 to see if it goes through. Then you can be sure that it is updated to handle this unreferenced VIDEO_TS.VOB better than Shrink.

Why should it? AnyDVD does not do anything with blank media.

I don't understand. when I am in anydvd it has your source and target destination, the source is my D: drive which is the movie and the target is my E: drive which is where my blank media is to burn the movie to. It says it can not see my target drive (E so therefore it will not do anything. unless I am missing something. what do I do???

@ myworld,

I believe it would be extremely helpful if you viewed the below Web Link that clearly explains the function of the AnyDVD Software Program.

http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html

In short the AnyDVD software program doesn’t have anything to with blank DVD Media.

Suggest viewing the AnyDVD Forum “Read First” posting titled “New posters with ripping/burning problems” (http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=182650) and provide the information requested in that posting. When you provide the pertained information requested in that posting then Forum Members will be able to provide meaningful assistance to you.

Best Regards,

Re: Problems with AnyDVD/DVD Shrink, Movie "The Net 2"

anydvd does not burn anything.

the "source" and "target" you're referring to has to do with its ripper function.

please view the link that bjkg has posted and read about the anydvd program and what it does.

if you still have questions after that, pleae start your own thread as this thread does not relate to your question at all.
