Problems with '36 Quai Des Orfevres' (PAL R2)

Hi,

Couldn't get this movies video_ts folder down to my hard drive to convert onto my Archos due to read errors - it's a brand new DVD with no marks/scratches on it, below is the AnyDVD summary and protection info for the disc, below that is my attempt at using the AnyDVD Ripper which found read errors at 89%, when I clicked to continue and ignore the errors you can see the number of seconds went a bit crazy and it just sat there on 89% churning out random "seconds", I clicked the Abort button in the end to stop it all.

Appreciate any suggestions, I've tried to copy this on both my NEC 4571 DVD drives, same read errors, could it be the protection on it???

Arccos & Alpha-DVD - sounds very wrong to me.
AnyDVD seems to detect the protection incorrectly. Send the .ifo files to SlySoft so they can fix it.

Thanks I will, support @ slysoft.com for mailing them ?

Oh, do I just zip all the .ifo files up off the DVD, and do I do that with or without AnyDVD modifying the structure, i.e. should I turn AnyDVD OFF when I zip them up? Thanks!

Turn anydvd off before you copy the IFO files to your HDD other wise they will be modified by AnyDVD and Slysoft won't be able to see what is causing your issue.

I seem to remember reading that another user had the same problem (different movie though ) just last week. I haven't seen this ALPHA-DVD on UK R2 movies yet.

Re: Problems with '36 Quai Des Orfevres' (PAL R2)

Just a bit

Okay, used AnyDVD ripper to get the video_ts folder down to my hard drive, no read errors this time

Tried PowerDVD7, open DVD folder on hard drive, PowerDVD would freeze, had to End Task.

Then decided I'd try DVD Rebuilder Pro, Main movie only (no menus/extras), English Stereo sound only, took 12 minutes to do movie only and that plays fine in PowerDVD7

Going to try a FULL backup with DVD Rebuilder Pro now, will post results when I come back in a couple of hours.

Curious as to why PowerDVD7 would hang on the ripped video_ts from the original though...

But I must thank SlySoft for their fantastic speedy response, I've so far got a movie-only backup of it ready to go onto my Archos

Don't use the ripper....
Does it play the original with AnyDVD enabled?

Didn't try that, just wanted to be able to get the whole thing down onto my harddrive

DVD Rebuilder Pro FULL backup just hung PowerDVD same as the video_ts did from the rip. At least the Movie-only works though, maybe something Slysoft can improve in another release? Thanks again.

A good advice is to try how the DVD *plays* with AnyDVD enabled first. If it doesn't even play, don't expect the copy to work.
And if it plays, it isn't AnyDVD's fault. Another good advice: If you want/need to rip, use elby CloneDVD2. If you want to use a different compressor, set CloneDVD to Dual Layer (no compression). In my experience this works much better than the "AnyDVD ripper", and you see right away if AnyDVD fails for some reason.
