Problem splitting into 2 DVDs

Hi,
I am trying to figure out how to split up a 3 hours DVD on
to 2 DVDs.
I can't seem to split up the chapters. There are 41 of
them. When I click on the scissors, not much happens.
On the right hand screen I see Chapters 41, play time 3:04.

How do I divide them in half so they split on to 2 DVDs?
Can you give precise instructions please?
I read the help file and still cannot figure it out.

Also, what speed should I choose for best quality and which output?

I only play these in a DVD player on my TV, not computer.

Re: Problem splitting into 2 DVDs

Open CloneDVD
Click on help (you will get the owners manual)
You said you read it but everything you asked is all covered in the manual.
Be sure the TS to be split is highlighted.
Drag the chapter split bars with your mouse to split the movie
It's very easy.

output to DVD Writer
burn 8x media at 4x, burn 16x media at 6x or 8x.

BTW: what movie is it?

Re: Problem splitting into 2 DVDs

Thanks for the reply.
The movie is Vera-Zaara, a fine Hindi. I cloned it on to one DVD but would like higher quality. I assume that by putting it on 2 DVDs the quality will be better. (It's a tad over 3 hours) Am I correct that the image will improve?
I'm sorry, I must be missing something, but I cannot figure out how to split the chapters following what the manual says. I might be doing something incorrect.
First I 'invert for split'. Then I click on the scissors icon.
After that, I'm not sure how to continue to divide up the chapters of the film. (41 of them)
I'm new to this so please, could you give me the details click by click? To me, the manual is not clear.
Thanks

For sure a three hour movie is going to look like crap compressed onto a single layer disk. By splitting onto two disks the backup will play with the same quality as the original.

Forget that 'invert for split' thing you posted. You don't need to do that. You can't invert for split if you have not created the split yet. Don't use that feature again until you have a better grasp of what you are doing. Just split yourself, manually.

Highlight (click on) the main movie Title Set.

Click on the Scissors button.

Drag (with your mouse) the chapter split indicators from the right or the left until you get the split that you want based on the readout on the highlighted main movie Title Set line combined with the readout from the compression meter. You want zero compression, or as close as possible, on each of your split backup disks. So the compression meter should read as close to 100% as possible.

It's all there in the manual and you since write the Queen's English, even though you like Hindi movies, I know reading English is not your problem. You just are a victim of some kind of tunnel vision that is stopping you from getting it.

I don't mean to be condescending and no dis intended, but nobody is going to write you a click-by-click posting.

Best regards,
Whisperer

Re: Problem splitting into 2 DVDs

Well, you either gave up or I put you off or you went to sleep!

Try this for your main movie Title split test: drag the split indicator sliders to:

Chapters 1 - 20 out of 41
does the compression meter show close to 100%?
If it does then that will be a good split for Disk1 of your backup.

then re-drag the sliders to

Chapters 21 - 41 out of 41
does the compression meter also show close to 100%?
If it does then that will be a good split for Disk2 of your backup

So if both readouts show close to 100% then you are set to go. If the compression meter shows way lower than 100% on either disk, then change the chapter splits until it fits the way you want. You can also remove special features or advertisements or previews or juggle them around by selecting them for one disk or the other until you get a good fit. Also if you advance to the next page of CloneDVD you can choose to keep or dump subtitles or soundtracks of languages you don't speak and don't need on your backup. Doing all or some of these things free up data space to help a movie fit onto the two disk split backup you are making. There is a compression meter on the second page too, by which you can judge the data size going onto your backup disks.

Now backup to page one again and set it up for your first split disk (based on your tests above) and press next, next, and go to burn the first half of your backup.

After it's finished burning, then return to the first page and set it up for your second backup disk (based on your tests above) and then, again, press next, next, and go to burn the second half of your backup.

Understand now? Now i'm going to sleep. Good night from L.A.

Re: Problem splitting into 2 DVDs

Thanks for all your kind help.
Actually, I went to sleep.
The thing I was NOT noticing was the NEW sliding bar that appears when you click on the scissors. Once I noticed that, it was easy to figure out what you and what the manual have been describing. It'd be nice if the manual mentioned that a new bar appears. It would make it clear for someone like myself.
I did chapters 1-21 and 22-41 at 100% quality.

Again, thanks for taking the time to help me out!

BTW, the title is Veer-Zaara, not Vera-Zaara.
It's a very good film.

Whisperer,

Could you recommend an intuitive program for making labels for the DVD case?

Thanks,

Re: Problem splitting into 2 DVDs

No, never looked into it. I have the artwork already from the originals that I bought. I put the backups into those cases and store the original disks in CD jewel cases. (truth)

The jewel cases are then packed into hermetically sealed, radiation proof containers and are stored in a shelter deep beneath the Rocky Mountains in case of nuclear attack. I will of course take them with me to my afterlife when my pyramid is finished construction. (fantacy)

Re: Problem splitting into 2 DVDs

whoeps, I bet you didn't know a DVD disk is that big eithre.

A Dual Layer DVD holds 9 GB of data. A CD only holds 780 MB of data (not even 1GB). You cannot realistically do what you are asking and expect any degree of quality.

You will probably have to buy a DVD Writer and copying software. But you can try CloneCD:

Re: Problem splitting into 2 DVDs

Any idea if CloneDVD works properly with DVD43?
Anyone recommend any other copy protection removal software other than DVD43?

TIA

Oh, I don't know, perhaps AnyDVD? It's by far superior to everything else out there. Yes, you'll have to pay for it. Yes, it's VERY much worth it. Look around this forum and you'll see problem after problem after problem....solved. Last night Slysoft released 2 new versions of AnyDVD...one to add new functionality and another a few hours later to fix a bug. Most people probably hadn't updated to the first version before the new one came out. That is service. IMO, DVD43 will work but is nowhere near as good as AnyDVD.

SureThing is a great label software. I scan DVD and lover then print directly on a DVD and an insert. Do not use stick on Labels search this forum for reason as don't want to get too far off topic.

Re: Problem splitting into 2 DVDs

how786, you either need a video card that has video and audio in, or something like Plextor's ConvertX to transfer from VCR to computer to make DVD.
