Problem getting disc burned

1. Up to date.

2. Version 6.0.7.0 for AnyDVD. Problem occurs with both Sonic Digital Media Plus v7 2.4.11a and with DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15 + DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0

3. “Toothless”, R1, USA, date unknown

4. Lite-on COMBO SOHC-4836K SP32

5. It happens with Sony DVD-R, Sony DVD+R, Memorex DVD+R, Maxell DVD+R. All are 4.7g, 16x on the label, until you use them, then the Maxell and Memorex turn out to be 12x.

6. Max

7. Summary for drive J: (AnyDVD 6.0.7.0)
Drive (Hardware) Region: 2

Media is a Data DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 1
Total size: 2198214 sectors (4293 MBytes)

Video DVD (or CD) label: TOOTHLESS
Media is CSS protected!
Video Standard: NTSC
Media is locked to region(s): 1 4!

RCE protection not found.
DVD structure appears to be correct.
Found & removed invalid VOBUs!
Changed firstplay: Jump directly to TitleMenu!
Found & removed Autorun from Video DVD!
Bad sector protection not found.
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1!

8. No error message is received. However, when the disc is supposedly copied, no burn is made on the target disc and no image can therefore be found. It is simply a finalized empty disc. It is a Disney disc and won’t play on my PC without downloading some old playing program that I’m not going to download.

How can Sony be the problem? I agree on the Memorex part though.

Re: Problem getting disc burned

I have found the below Web Link an excellent research source as to determining what is good top of the line quality DVD Media and what is cheep garbage DVD Media. I believe it is worthwhile to take a look ->

http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

BeLooken

PS – I have found both Sony (Made In Japan) and Maxell excellent DVD Media. Memorex DVD Media is cheep garbage Media and should be avoided at all cost.

Re: Problem getting disc burned

Maybe I wasn't quite clear---I have done several dozen backups with no problem---the only difficulty is with this one disc!

Re: Problem getting disc burned

You are saying this is a Disney disc and won't play in your pc without additional software which you refuse to install then may be that is whey the disc can't be copied because I snot being read and ripped. Try to use DVDE Shrink to find out the disc can be ripped if so then you can easily burn the rapped file into your blank disc.

Re: Problem getting disc burned

Yes, the images come up on DVD Shrink---everything looks fine and normal until you look at the supposedly burned disc...it doesn't have the etched look when a burn occurs.

Could the problem possibly be that you are copying a DVD Movie that is Region 1, your Drive (Hardware) is set to Region 2, but that you have AnyDVD setup Emulating RPC-2 drive with Region 1.

Aren’t users supposed to setup AnyDVD to the Region Code of the Drive Hardware?

Re: Problem getting disc burned

That struck me as a bit odd all right, but I've had no problems with any other disc, and have done discs from R1, R2, R3, R4, and R5. I haven't tried to back up my one R6 disc as yet...

No, this is all correct. AnyDVD emulates a Region 1 drive because the disc is Region 1 & 4.
I assume the OP lives in a Region 2 country, so he should leave the region setting alone.

No. What gave you this idea?
Right mouse button on the region selector will tell you what this is about.
(I am too lazy to quote it here, basically it says "set it to the region of your disc, if the disc is RCE protected". It says nothing about the drive's hardware region!)
In other words: Leave it to 1, as there are no RCE discs in other regions.

Re: Problem getting disc burned

Additional info: RCE discs can easily be spotted, as they appear region free, maybe multi region.
As long as a disc *has* a region lock, AnyDVD will use *this* region as the only truth, and will ignore whatever you have set in AnyDVD's region selector.
Wise move, as the disc should know it best.

Re: Problem getting disc burned

Have shrink output the results to an image or files and NOT burned straight to disc. Check those files out (if you can since you won't download the "mystery" software).

Otherwise burn those resulting files/image to a disc. There would be no reason it should not burn this way as it is just data.

(Another reason why I don't do on-the-fly processing)

Re: Problem getting disc burned

Yes, the .ISO file is there, in the right size. Yes, the disc verifies. NO, there is NOTHING on the disc and there is NO evidence of a burn---no etching effect. When I attempt to play it in an ordinary DVD player, it freezes up and I have to unplug, replug, and eject before the machine can be used again.

Re: Problem getting disc burned

The DVD software I won't use is Interactual, a spyware-based player that was required to play some Disney DVDs in the early years of the decade, including this one. See http://player.interactual.com/default.asp?code=home

I defrag after every burn because of the large size of ISO files. I use Adaware, Spybot, and avast, all frequently and up-to-date. I have 76 g available space, don't know the processing speed.

Re: Problem getting disc burned

I got the 6.0.8.0 update---I still can't play Interactual-blocked discs...which is probably why I have trouble backing them up, too. How about a fix?

I back up 100's of DVD's with the same stuff you mention and have no problems using DVD Shrink or CloneDVD.

Re: Problem getting disc burned

Jpmccusa -

The Toothless DVD, which you are having difficulty with, is in the NTSC (National Television System Committee standard) video format but you are in DVD Region 2 where most DVD playback devices use the PAL (Phase Alternating Line standard) video format. Could this NTSC-PAL video format difference possibly be part of your viewing/playback problem?

I have copied numerous Commercial DVD Titles (Harry Potter & The Goblet Of Fire, The Polar Express, Bridge Of San Luis Rey, Alexander, Constantine, Phantom Of the Opera, and many others) that had the InterActual player garbage included on the Commercial DVD and didn’t have any problems. I just ensured that AnyDVD was loaded and activated prior to inserting the Commercial DVD Titles in my Computer DVD Burner, which prevented the InterActual player garbage from being loaded and allowed complete playing/viewing and complete copying of the Commercial DVD Title. When finished making the backup copy of the Commercial DVD Title the AnyDVD/ CloneDVD software combination did not copy any traces of the InterActual player garbage on the backup copy and the backup copies play flawlessly on all DVD playback devices.
