Problem: AnyDVD + PowerDVD

I have problem with AnyDVD (tried both v2.1.0.9 & v3.0.0.4) and PowerDVD (tried both v4 & 5).
I have a region free Sony DDU1621 DVD-ROM drive and have been happily using DVD Region Free (from Elby NOT DVDIdle). The reason I am trying AnyDVD is because I plan on buying a DVD burner soon and would like to still be able to watch other region DVD and rip using CloneDVD.
Here's my problem. Everytime I try to play a DVD (with Elby's DVD Region Free uninstalled and AnyDVD running), PowerDVD won't let me and display message saying the region code of player is incompatible with the disc. The weird thing is, in PowerDVD configuration/information menu, the player code is displayed as 3 (possibly software region code) and the disc code is displayed as 1,2,3,4,5,6,All (indicating AnyDVD is doing its job). But PowerDVD still won't let me play the movie. Btw the movie is region3 and PowerDVD plays fine with AnyDVD disabled (because drive is region free and software code is the same as disc code).
Any idea why this is happening? Or maybe AnyDVD does not support region free drive? (I know that I do not need AnyDVD since my drive is already region free and PowerDVD works fine with Elby's DVD Region Free, but this is the only drive I currently have to test AnyDVD with and the DVD burner I'm planning on getting does not have region free firmware patch). I would like to get this sorted out before getting a DVD burner.
Thanks.

Sorry, no idea. AnyDVD is just an upgraded DVD Region Killer, so it should work just the same. Is your drive really enabled for AnyDVD? Hover over the red fox, check the On, Off, Empty counts.

Yep I'm sure my DVD-ROM drive is checked in AnyDVD. It's probably my Windows installation is screwing up. I will get a new hdd sometime this week and will try again after a fresh Windows install. Will keep you guys posted on the result. Hopefully the problem goes away.
Btw I thought DVD Region Killer (Elby's) and AnyDVD work differently. I may be wrong, but I thought DVD Region Killer simulates a RPC2 drive for RPC1 drive while AnyDVD simulates region free disc.

AnyDVD simulates a RPC2 drive AND simulates a region free disc.
