No success using AnyDVD

I purchased AnyDVD after reading so many good reports about it. However, I am sure that it is not working as it is supposed to. When I let it run, and I know it "sees" my DVD in the drive, it does not seem to disable any of the copy protections. Shrink 3.2.0.15 will give me a "invalid navigation structure" error--DVDDecrypter 3.5.4.0 will say either that "on the fly IFO/BUP file patching failed or that the (this is not a quote--disc is css protected, which is quite unusual and Recode will plain old just flat out disappear from the screen. Since reading this forum-and others- I have since removed Sonic from my machine, even though it did not appear to be causing grief and I also downgraded my Nero suite (also purchased) to version6.6.0.18. I also uninstalled AnyDVD, but saved the registration info, and reinstalled it in safe mode. No improvements. I can do movies with freeware that I can't do with AnyDVD. I have WinXP SP2 my burner is a Sony DRU-510A with firmware 1.1a. I also use a Sony DVD-ROM and TY minus media. I ask for your suggestions. Please. Give the new guy a break!

Re: No success using AnyDVD

You haven't provided enough information.

1. What version of Anydvd are you using? If it's not 5.9.5.8, visit http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html and install the latest version.

2. State a specific movie title and corresponding region code that you are experiencing problems with.

3. Downgrading Nero is pointless. The latest version for you is 6.6.1.4. Especially ensure you download package 2 from http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php

4. With the movie from point #2 inserted in your computer, right click the red fox icon on your desktop and click "show information". Select the appropriate drive tab letter across the top. Copy and paste the infomation from that Anydvd window here in this thread.

5. The Sony DRU-510A is an exceptionally old burner that can only write at a max of 4x on using most media (and only 2x on -rw media). Ensure you're using media that's appropriate for your burner--and ensure you are not attempting to write beyond the speed your drive is capable of. Frankly, I recommend getting a new burner.

6. If you installed Incd when you installed Nero 6.6, I would uninstall Incd, and never look back (but that's just me). I hate packet writing software like Incd and Directcd. In my opinion, those programs cause nothing but trouble.

7. What brand and model of motherboard are you using?

8. Is DMA enabled for your drives? You may want to also take a close look at this:
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=86829

9. Stick with one program and tell us what the specific error message is and explain exactly what you are doing when you receive that error message.

I was using 5.9.5.8 when I posted--am now using 5.9.5.9.

2. State a specific movie title and corresponding region code that you are experiencing problems with.

Will try my best to include info from Hustle and Flow, as an example.

3. Downgrading Nero is pointless. The latest version for you is 6.6.1.4. Especially ensure you download package 2 from http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php

I uninstalled the newest version of 6.6.1.4 after reading another help forum where some had trouble with it, and then reinstalled 6.6.0.18.

4. With the movie from point #2 inserted in your computer, right click the red fox icon on your desktop and click "show information". Select the appropriate drive tab letter across the top. Copy and paste the infomation from that Anydvd window here in this thread.

Summary for drive E: (AnyDVD 5.9.5.9

Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (opposite)

Total size: 4083295 sectors (7975 MBytes)
)
Video DVD (or CD) label: HUSTLE_FLOW
Media is CSS protected!
Video Standard: NTSC
Media is locked to region(s): 1!

Found & removed RCE protection!
DVD structure appears to be correct.
Structural copy protection not found.
Autorun not found on Video DVD.
Bad sector protection not found.
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1!

I know it is old but it does work OK for burning. I usually burn at 2X, as speed is not important. I have been using Taiyo Yuden GO2, which are 4x minus "R's" because these have printable surfaces. I am not against replacing this one, though, and welcome suggestions.

6. If you installed Incd when you installed Nero 6.6, I would uninstall Incd, and never look back (but that's just me). I hate packet writing software like Incd and Directcd. In my opinion, those programs cause nothing but trouble.

I do not have any packet writing software loaded. Don't really know what it is, but I did not load it and checked to make sure it is not on my machine.

7. What brand and model of motherboard are you using?

Moboard is a an Intel D845PESV with one Gig of RAM

8. Is DMA enabled for your drives? You may want to also take a close look at this:
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=86829

DMA enabled on primary and all drives.

9. Stick with one program and tell us what the specific error message is and explain exactly what you are doing when you receive that error message.
When I tried to "shrink" Hustle and Flow for this post, using Nero Recode--it ran through the first pass but gave me and "out of memory" error when doing the deep analysis. One thing that may or may not be worth noting--Several months ago, for reasons I cannot explain, the icons on my desktop were highlighted-at least the words under them were. I don't know how, why or exactly when it happened. My antivirus runs each day and I have Spybot, Adaware, Microsoft spyware and Spyware Blaster installed and used regularly. Is it possible that I may need to reformat or reinstall my operating system? Yikes!! Here is the log from Nero.

Re: No success using AnyDVD

You should try the AnyDVD ripper. Copy the files to harddisk using the Ripper. Use Recode from the copied files.

Re: No success using AnyDVD

Isn't AnyDVD supposed to simply run in the backround so that it isn't neccesary to rip to disk, first? I bought the program in order to save a step or two when backing up. I will try again to rip with this version but even that didn't work with yesterday's version; 5.9.5.8.

Then drop Recode and switch to CloneDVD...Unless you think you can convince the fine people at Ahead to FIX THEIR DAMN PROGRAM. I'm guessing no. So, you have two choices...rip to the hard drive first with the AnyDVD ripper, or, switch to CloneDVD and be able to transcode directly from the disc.

@ Emoludlod,

Suggest reading the change History Log for AnyDVD version 5.9.1.1. Below is a direct quotation from the AnyDVD v5.9.1.1 History change log concerning the “AnyDVD Ripper”.

"New: Added "AnyDVD Ripper". This little tool repairs defective DVDs while copying them to your hard disk. It can be started from the menu of the AnyDVD fox icon. It can be started as a stand-alone application from the start menu as well, so it can be used even if AnyDVD is not registered and the trial period has expired. It is identical to FixVTS ([urlhttp://www.videohelp.com/~FixVTS/[/url]) but instead of fixing problems "in place" it copies the files to your hard disk directly from the source DVD. It fixes the problems while the files are copied. Some DVDs, which have severe mastering defects e.g., "Menace II Society" R1 (US) can now be copied with all DVD copy tools (elby CloneDVD, DVDShrink, etc.) Many thanks to the author of FixVTS!"

The “AnyDVD Ripper” function was specifically added to AnyDVD software program so that AnyDVD would be able to work correctly with software programs like DVD Shrink and/or Nero Recode, which the authors have failed to update and improve to handle the newer copy protection schemes. SlySoft has no control over the authors of DVD Shrink an/or Nero Record software program to up date and fix their software programs to handle the new copy protection schemes and the best SlySoft can do is to add the “AnyDVD Ripper” function to the AnyDVD software program. If you do not desire to use the “AnyDVD Ripper” function and rip the DVD to hard drive suggest using newer and up dated DVD backup coping program like CloneDVD that can handle the newer copy protection schemes that do not require ripping the DVD to your hard drive before processing.

Best Regards,
bjkg

No problem at all. I highly recommend checking out the trial of CloneDVD. It gives you 21 days to check it out.
