any dvd (6.0.5.0) says there is no dvd in the drive on both of these movies. but it does detect other movies. i use clone dvd 2 (2.9.0.1) any ideas on what the problem is ?

What does Windows show in "My Computer" when AnyDVD is disabled? Does it show the disk, and are you able to play it in a software DVD player? Perhaps the disk is so damaged, that it can't be read properly and isn't seen be Windows.

Then the problem isn't with AnyDVD. Do you have another drive you can test with? It's possible the disks are defective - i.e. bad presses. However, it's also possible your DVD drive is dying on you. When one of my DVD drives failed a year or two ago, it would mysteriously stop reading disks for no apparent reason. Than it failed to read any disks.

i was wondering about that but i can put other dvds in there and it reads them ie... star wars episode 3 , inside man and so on but it will not read rv or scary movie 4

How about your drives that are in question, what are they and what's the firmware on them?

Can you play the disks in your standalone DVD player? Can you play them on another drive or on another PC?

my drive is a toshiba cd/dvdw sd r5372 i dont know about the firm ware?

As the disks are playing fine in your standalone DVD player, it sounds like there is something wrong with your Toshiba DVD drive on your PC.

This can happen when a drive is beginning to fail. I suggest trying the DVDs in another DVD-ROM or DVD-RW drive. Perhaps you can test to see if the DVD plays in a friend's laptop if you don't own another computer or drive.

There was some firmware updates to for your PC. TU56 is the latest version.

Have you set the region code of your toshiba to the correct region# for your location in the world? For instance, if you live in the USA, you must set your Toshiba to Region1. Check this under drive properties.

I suspect DVD manufacturing quality is getting worse. I had a little problem getting my Lite-On 165 to recognize SM4 - the light blinked in a steady pattern for like 30 seconds. I opened and closed the drawer, it did the same pattern for about 20 seconds, then recognized the disc and worked fine. It also failed to read a sector on Final Destination 3, so I tried it in my 163D and it worked. I tried again in the 165 and it worked and didn't even flinch where it had failed before. Firewall glitched a few times during the opening credits on my standalone player, but it didn't have a problem in the PC.
