No DVD Drive detected!

I'm using (but "not using" shoud fit a little more) anydvd 5.9.6.0. There is a little problem. Whenever I try to start it, it gives me this message:

Code:
WARRNING!

No DVD Drive detected!

Possible reasons:

1. - You don't have a DVD drive, buy one. (lol)
2. - You haven't rebooted your system after anydvd was installed. Please restart your computer.
3. - You'r external dvd drive is not powered on or is not properly connected.
4. - There is a problem initialising anydvd driver. If this is the case, try this:
Uninstall AnyDVD.
Reboot.
Install AnyDVD.
Reboot.
My system is:
Abit NF7-s v2 mainboard (nforce2)
DVD-Rom drive LiteOn SOHD-16P9SV (firmware F$01)
DVD-RW writer LiteOn SHW-16H5s (LV4C firmware)
1280ram
overclocked sempron cpu
Seagate Baracuda 120GB hdd
WindowsXP Pro SP2

I did all the suggested in above message steps. I also uninstalled nvidia nforce ide driver... It still isn't working.

I even tried changing firmware in the drive and connecting other dvd drivers (that are working with anydvd on my other systems with no problem). AnyDVD still claims I don't have DVD drive... Annoying

I would appreciate any suggestions...

PS. Other reading/burning software works fine for me.

[edit]
If there is a solution to this problem on this board, sorry but for some reason I cannot use search (it always gives me blank page or some error saying, that I should check my connection - with firefox, ie6 & ie7)

Unfortunately, not.

There is one more thing. The AnyDVD driver is installed.

Re: No DVD Drive detected!

How long have you had anydvd?

If you just got it a few days weeks ago I thinking......Did you ever have DVD43 on your system? if so after the uninstall you need to remove a few dll files that stay there for some od reason.

Nope, I never had it installed, in fact I didn't even know that app.

If some dlls shoud be removed, then which ones?

I remember AnyDVD working on this system last time I used it, just before system reinstallation.

Re: No DVD Drive detected!

@ ffgriever,

Quite possibly you could have a Widow Registry UpperFilters and/or LowerFilters entry error.

Suggest viewing the below Microsoft article.

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;320553

If you are uncomfortable with editing your delicate Widows Registry suggest viewing the below Web Link which contains an easy to use executable file that will set your Widows Registry UpperFilers/LowerFilters values.

Re: No DVD Drive detected!

Well, it's not the solution I'm searching for. Microsoft pages say that the sypthoms are: drives are not visible in "My computer".

I followed the steps mentioned. It didn't help. I can see my drives in my computer. I can also use them with other ripping/burning software.

I also have some problems with flashing my drives (so it may not be windows specific problem) - dos programs like mtkflash and others don't work (they can read but can't write flash. Only original liteon ones and those from codeguys work. I'm not aware of any linux mtk/liteon flashers). Yet still, AnyDVD *WAS* working before... I'm clueless.

Anyway thanks for your replies.

Re: No DVD Drive detected!

@ ffgriever,

Have you ensured that you have curtailed all Multi-Tasking background operations while AnyDVD is activated? Also ensure that you don’t have any invasive Anti-Virus and Packet Writing programs running while the AnyDVD software program is activated.

The following are examples of packet writing software programs –> Sonic DLA, Nero InCD, NTI FileCD, Roxio DirectCD/Drag-To-Disc, CE Quadrant Just!Burn, Sony abCD, InstantWrite, Backup4all, B's Clip, NeoClip, InstantBurn. This is not an extensive complete list, there are numerous others. If you have any Packet Writing Software Programs installed strongly suggest to completely remove them from your computer.

To ensure that all background operations are in fact curtailed check that all unnecessary programs are not automatically loaded during Window Startup. To check this suggest viewing the below Web Link that details how to use MSCONFIG to configure Windows Startup to load only necessary items. You will be surprised at all the unnecessary Memory and Resource wasting items that are automatically loaded during Windows Startup. Quite possibility you have some unnecessary item automatically loaded during Windows Startup that you are unaware of that could be interfering with the popper operation of AnyDVD that causing your problem.

http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/

Also have you ensured that you don’t have any 3rd party drivers like the Intel Application Accelerator installed?

Also have you insured that both connector ends of the IDE Cable that the subject DVD Burner are connected to are properly seated and connected properly and that it is operating correctly and is not somehow defective? If you have another IDE Cable suggest making a substitution. Also suggest setting the appropriate Master/Slave IDE Channel of the subject DVD Burner instead of Cable Select (CSEL). Some configurations prefer Master/Slave settings instead of Cable Select (CSEL).

Re: No DVD Drive detected!

@bjkg
Well, sorry if it would sound little bit rude, but I'm not such a noob you may have been taken me as (I just have no clue what might cause this problem, I don't say I'm a pro, but checking cables, bgprograms etc. is kind of answer I would expect from official slysoft support - always meaningless). I'm sure it's not the cables (new 80 wires cables and the system is rock stable, drives are working fine, burning quality is extremly good).
I'm sure in the background there is running nothing suspicious. Tried disabling antivir (kaspersky), and everything I thought might have had some impact on anydvd.

I was just hoping that someone with similiar configuration had the same problem and managed to solve this. Hey, but thanks for your support anyway. You never know what coud you forget about (sh*t happens), so sometimes it may be a very trivial solution...

Just will try to clean the system a lil' bit more (used a lot of software for my ps2, installed, uninstalled (or not!)), or even a new fresh system install.

Best regards,

Re: No DVD Drive detected!

@ ffgriever,

Sorry that you find my trouble-shooting suggestions offensive. In my feeble mind I though I was actually providing real valid troubleshooting suggestions but I guess my apparent simplistic suggestions are below your expertise level.

Quite possibly you might find another Forum Member who in your eyes trouble-shooting suggestions are less offensive, more valid, and meet with your expertise level.

Try to:
1) power on & as soon start rebooting.
2) Press Delete
3) waith a couple seconds and press F8
4) A blue screen will apear with a list of steps, choose the first one from there you will see if your burnes are conected if they aren't press F3 to recognize your drivers.
5) Press F10 to exit and press Y to save your new changes.
hopefully that solve your problem.
plus you should clean your register with a professional program.

Re: No DVD Drive detected!

Thanx for your support guys.
The problem was solved (the solution is simple, but partial). I still don't know what caused the problem. It must've been some drivers/dlls related issue. I just restored clean system install with my ghost backup. AnyDVD is working now. Some things have to be installed again, since the backup is month or so old, but at least I don't have to install all the initial drivers and applications I usually use.

Re: No DVD Drive detected!

here is the procedure I used to fix the No DVD Drive error..

Code:
How I resolved the No DVD Drive Detected error:

1. Unistall CloneDVD and AnyDVD using their uninstaller.
2. Open the C:\%systemroot%\system32 folder and remove the following file. Put them somewhere ele for the time being.
	* ElbyCDIO.dll
3. Open the C:\%systemroot%\system32\drivers folder and remove the following file(s). Put them somewhere else for the time being.
	* AnyDVD.sys
	* ElbyCDIO.sys
	* ElbyDelay.sys
	* RegKill.sys
4. Open your Favrite Registry Editor and delete following registry keys and all of it contents:
	*HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Elaborate Bytes
	*HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SlySoft
	*HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elaborate Bytes
	*HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SlySoft
5. Now install the AnyDVD first. Register the program if you need to or just continure with your trial.
6. Run AnyDVD right now even though it says to reboot. This will tell you if you DVD Drives are being detected or not.
7. Now install CloneDVD Second. Register the program if you need to or just continue with your trial.
8. This step is just what I do and by no means is this a "have to do". I stop AnyDVD from starting with windows. This is just my peference.
9.  Reboot!

What I think cause this issue:

When you unistall the software it does not remove the files from the Windows Directory. When you reinstall later it sees the files and skips them. I think because the files are already in the directories the install software does not register the DLL's and does not initalize the the Anydvd Diver. By removing the files after the unistall the Installer sees the files do not exsist and reinstalls them and registers the DLL's and initalizes the Anydvd Driver liek it should.

Double Posting

@ kingvandal,

Welcome to the Forum.

Suggest reviewing the CD Freaks Fourm Rules (http://club.cdfreaks.com/announcemen...ouncementid=37) and note the comments concerning Double Posting. You have made the exactly same posting in two different posting threads. Also these Forum threads you have posted to are months old and inactive.

It should be noted that all the Windows Registry editing that you are suggesting is unnecessary. The CloneDVD and AnyDVD setup exactable installer correctly handles Windows Registry entries. If you have to resort to editing Windows Registry entries indicates that you have some 3rd party software program interfering in the correct functioning of the CloneDVD and AnyDVD setup exactable installer software.

Re: Double Posting

sorry about the double post. I found them both while googling. and as for the registry I just added that into the mix to completely remove all the remanents of the program. And I believe the installer does not work correctly, atleast when it comes to the problem I have had and ffgriever has had. But opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one. :-) I just wanted to make sure that ffgriever was able to read the fix for the issue he was having and for anyone googling to find help with this problem. and i don't understand why it is bad to reply to a post that is months old that was never resolved with a resolution?? Is that not the reason for a Public Forum? I had a problem so I clicked help from within the program and it brought me to the website. From there I started my searching. I find 2 posts from different people with the same question. Should I have changed the way I replyed to each post? never the less we do not have a meeting of the minds on this topic. If you wish to delete one of the posts replys or edit to point to this thread then so be it. or better yet maybe you could make this a sticky thread so this problem will not arise again. I only created this account to post a resolution. I am a technician by trade and when I have a resolution to a problem that someone is having I will try to help. As did you. Below is a messages to anyone reading this.

best regards to you,

-kv

*TO ALL WHO READ THIS*

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO EDIT THE REGISTRY. ONLY DO THAT IF YOU WANT TO REMOVE ALL THE REMENANTS OF AnyDVD and CloneDVD. IT IS NOT NECESSARY. *NOTE THAT THE REGISTRY KEYS ARE WHERE YOUR REGISTRATION DATA IS HELD. SO FOR SOME REASON YOU GET SOME CORRUPTION AND YOU CAN NO LONGER USE ANYDVD OR CLONEDVD YOU COULD GO IN THERE AND DELETE THEM AND REINSTALL TO MAKE THEM WORK AGAIN. ONLY DO THIS IF YOU HAVE A LEGIMATE LICENSE!!!!!!
