You can find a beta version here:

Let me know if it works for you. The password for the zip archive is "ripper" (without the quotation marks).

For those who don't know if they should try the beta version, here is the changelog:

5.9.0.0, 2006 02 09
- Important: When installing this version over an existing
installation, you must reboot your machine. Otherwise the changes
made in the AnyDVD device driver will not have any effect!
- New: Added workaround for DVDShrink / Nero Recode "Out of memory"
error when copying Macrovision RipGuard protected discs with
menus, e.g. "Madagascar" R1 (US)
- New: Error zones on RipGuard/Arccos/PuppetLock protected titles are
now replaced with "valid material". 3rd party tools like DVDDecrypter
will now work better (no more "Pack Header Error" messages - another try,
this time it should really work).
- Note: To use DVDDecrypter with AnyDVD set I/O Model to SPTI or ElbyCDIO.
Set CSS Cracking method to none. Disable checking for structure
protection.
- New: Added "AnyDVD Ripper". This little tool repairs defective DVDs
while copying them to your harddisk. It can be started from the menu of
the AnyDVD fox icon.
It is identical to FixVTS (http://www.videohelp.com/~FixVTS/) but instead
of fixing problems "in place" it copies the files to your harddisk directly
from the source DVD. It fixes the problems while the files are copied.
Some DVDs which have severe mastering defects e.g.,
"Menace II Society" R1 (US) can now be copied with all DVD copy tools
(elby CloneDVD, DVDShrink, etc.) Many thanks to the author of FixVTS!
"AnyDVD Ripper" is a tool intended as a "last resort". It is not
beautiful, and some of its messages cannot be localized yet.
- Fix: Hang after update check with some system configurations

I'll definitely look into getting this when it comes out.
reasonsnotrules (and whovever dares to try a beta version), you can try a beta version of CloneCD if you like. Here it is:
http://sandbox.slysoft.com/SetupCloneCD5271.zip
The password for the zip archive is "ripper" (without the quotation marks).
I hope you like it.

Here is the changelog:

CloneCD 5.2.7.1 2006-01-31
- New: Added overburning for DVD media
- New: Added support for DVD-R DL media
- New: When Dual layer DVDs are copied to DVD+R DL media, the layer
break position of the destination disc will be exactly at the same
location as the source disc (does not work with DVD-R DL media, because
DVD-R DL media has a fixed layer break position)
- New: Added display of layer break position
- New: Added support for Windows Vista
- New: More logical behaviour of the User Interface when the Erase or
Progress windows are minimized
- Fix: CD (not DVD) Image filenames longer than 79 characters caused
CloneCD to crash
- Updated languages

Re: New Version AnyDVD 5.8.4.1.

While we're at it and you've been asking yourself "what about CloneDVD"?
Yes, there will be an update soon (if the little problems with CloneDVD "mobile" have been solved).

Here is current changelog for your information. As you can see, this is only a maintenance release, there are no groundbreaking new features. We cannot provide a preview/beta version at this time, sorry.

Version 2.8.8.1: 2006 02 01
- New: Better handling of some badly mastered DVD titles
- New: Automatic read retries (20 times), allows copying of
scratched discs
- New: Support for Windows Vista
- New: Added CD-R to the size selector in the title selection
(previously was "Mini DVD", which confused people because of 8cm
DVDs known as "Mini DVD" as well)
- New: Added support for DVD-R DL writing (only writing to +R Dual Layer
Discs was supported)
- New: Workaround for incorrectly mastered DVDs made with Pinnacle
Studio causing an error
- New: Improved writing to DVD-R media
- New: Added brazilian portuguese language
- Change: Mini DVD size is changed to 1.4 GByte (size of 8cm DVD-R media)
- Change: "Filter unreferenced material to improve splitting" has
been removed from the preferences pane. This option is now always
enabled.
- Fix: High CPU use for several minutes when checking for program update
- Fix: Sound out of sync problems with incorrectly mastered DVDs
- Fix: Quality bar sometimes invisible with incorrectly mastered DVDs
- Fix: DVD configuration reported incorrect resolution for NTSC DVDs
- Updated languages

Re: New Version AnyDVD 5.8.4.1.

James,
Concerning the changelog for the pending AnyDVD beta version 5.9.0.0, 2006 02 09:

Could you please give your definition of:

1. "defective" DVDs

2. "mastering defects"

3. and, while I'm at it, let me add "mastering errors" and "mastering flaws" (as adversed to surface "defects" e.g. scratches, dings, flaws) to these definitions. And/or any further, similar terms you may wish to further define or refine for differentiation purposes for future member's clarity of usage.

4. And do you consider purposely included "block" protections a "mastering defect"?

Because members sling these terms out, they seem to have different meanings to different members based on the context of their usage in a posted question or an answer post. I'd like to hear it from you so we could refine our terminology. Thanks

Also:

I assume by "last resort" you mean if the Clone entire DVD, the CloneDVD Titles, or drag and drop via Explorer doesn't work on certain originals, correct?

And, please, what do you mean by "not beautiful" and "messages cannot be localized". Sorry if I'm slow to pick up on this stuff as I have had most of my AnyDVD/CloneDVD experience and success via the simple CloneDVD method.

Thanks,
Whisperer

Re: New Version AnyDVD 5.8.4.1.

>Could you please give your definition of:
>1. "defective" DVDs
In this context the same as

> 2. "mastering defects"
Mastering defects are structural or other errors/mistakes which were made during the mastering of the DVD. Sometimes these errors were made unintentionally ("Menace II Society" US, "Troy" Netherlands), sometimes they are made intentionally as some form of copy protection. These are not manufacturing errors, as all DVDs will have the same error as it was made while the master disc was created.
Some mastering software like Pinnacle Studio can also introduce such problems, or some Standalone DVD recording devices.
All Universal DVDs have an unintentional mastering error in the titleset where the "Macrovision Quality Protection" trailer is located (AnyDVD removes it with the message "removed invalid VOBUs").

> 3. and, while I'm at it, let me add "mastering errors" and "mastering flaws" > (as adversed to surface flaws or defects) to these definitions.
all the same.

> 4. And do you consider purposely included "block" protections a "mastering > defect"?
You mean Arccos or RipGuard? Sure. They violate the DVD specs, I consider this a "defect".

>AlsoI assume by "last resort" you mean if the Clone entire DVD, the
> CloneDVD Titles, or drag and drop via Explorer doesn't work on certain
> originals, correct?
Yes, but you no longer need to "drag and drop", you can use AnyDVD Ripper, which will fix all problems while copying.

> And, please, what do you mean by "not beautiful"
Try it, then you'll know. I mean "ugly".

> and "messages cannot be localized".
Translated in other languages (yes, there are languages other than English! )

> Sorry if I'm slow to pick up on this stuff as I have had most of my
> AnyDVD/CloneDVD experience and success via the simple CloneDVD method.

Get "Menace II Society" at Amazon.com, then you'll understand the purpose of AnyDVD Ripper.

To clarify myself: AnyDVD repairs most mastering errors on the fly, there is no need to use "AnyDVD Ripper" for RipGuard, Arccos, Universal DVDs, Pinnacle Studio DVDs.

The problem is, that AnyDVD only looks at the DVD a few seconds. Some defects are inside the .vob files. To see such errors AnyDVD would need to scan (read) the whole disc from beginning to end.
You really don't want that, it would take 15 minutes before the disc would be visible to Windows!
Instead, AnyDVD ripper will scan the disc, repair the structural errors and copy it to your harddisk *at the same time* (it needs to read every sector on this disc anyway to detect all possible errors). It will not take longer than a drag and drop to your harddisk, but all problems are gone.
So, if CloneDVD or DVDShrink stops with an error - use AnyDVD ripper and copy the files to harddisk.

Re: New Version AnyDVD 5.8.4.1.

James,
Thank you for your patient, thorough and gracious point by point response.

I'm hot for this AnyDVD update! And the new CloneDVD! YES!

And with CloneCD's new capabilities, I'm gonna delve a little deeper into DL backups now that there is a program (from a company I know and trust) that preserves the original layer break for tru 1:1 backups at full quality. I always thought CloneDVD would add a second, user selectable interface for making real ISO (vs file) backups. Then you throw this CloneCD stuff at us ... Jeez!

Elby & Sly should get a nice boost in revenue. Too bad you couldn't get away with going public . Why don't you and Olli give yourselves nice, plump rai$e$! You sure as hell earned it. If your company bosses don't agree, give us their names and what time they leave work for the parking lot and some of us members will "explains it ta dem". "I want to use reliable people ... people who won't get carried away ..." (quote from The Godfather).

I'll also be soon switching over completely to DL backups because one DL blank media can be purchased for about the same price as two SL blanks (when on sale and in the US anyway): No more splitting ... soon. Gotta learn more.

Have not been to the purchase page of Sly or Elby to check it out yet ... but is there a current CloneDVD/AnyDVD "only" user CloneCD price/promotion yet? I never bought the three program bundle, only Clone and Any. Because "I never thought I'd need to backup CD's"

@James

Thanks for the Beta..

Installed AnyDVD5900 , and rebooted...

Shrink Did Not work when I tried it direct , ie just pointing Shrink to the DVD,and with Anydvd running in the background..

But..

It Worked perfectly when I used the NEW Anydvd Ripper Function to first rip the DVd to hard disk..

The only reason I use Shrink in prefrence to Clone DVD is that shrink is more Flexable in setting compression per title - but now thanks to you guys I can use either.... - well done indeed!!

Re: New Version AnyDVD 5.8.4.1.

Ok, I am a current liscense holder of CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD. I just download the new CloneCD 5.2.7.1 beta and backed up a DVD using the copy on the fly option. I chose 12X writing speed. I used my BenQ 1655 to read and my BenQ 1640 to write. The whole process took about 8 minutes. The instant speed never reached 8x but I believe this is because it is reading and writing at the same time. I scanned the disc and I will post the scan below. I set QSuite with WOPC ON and Solid burn OFF. I am very impressed with this product. I would like to know if I buy this product can I use the discount that is now available for other Slysoft Products. The scan is as follows:

Re: New Version AnyDVD 5.8.4.1.

I am current license holder of AnyDVD, I bought it after DVD Decrypter was announced it was no longer developed and before DVDFab Decrypter was released the first time, now for the AnyDVD Ripper that is going to include, if I put the option of Remove Annoying Adverts and Trailers and click Jump Directly to Main Movie, will it rip only the main movie files and that's it? or will it just rip the whole thing?

It should do exactly what it has always done, only better.

I am also interested in buying CloneCD, and although I already own liscences of AnyDVD and Clone2, I would would also purchase CloneCD, I too never bought the bundle (Stupid me) because I never realized CD worked on DVDs, especially "On The Fly" copying. As you can see in my previous post I have downloaded the beta and it works great. I only backed up one movie on the fly and I am impressed with the results, I would buy it now if the "Promotion" is in effect.

You know about the splitting, I heard in CloneDVD for splitting, they don't add some logo saying Insert Disc 2, maybe they should add that in the next CloneDVD Update

Re: New Version AnyDVD 5.8.4.1.

ElBoricua433,
One of the nicest features of 321's DVD-X-Copy, final "Original" DXC release Version 1.5.2 was the "Please Insert Disk 2" message at the end of playing backup disk #1! Hint, hint.

And that version of DXC also found the exact layer break of the original to base the split logic on ... three bloody years ago! Hint, hint! I miss both of those features when I get a movie that requires CloneDVD to split due to block protections that DXC hasn't been updated to handle. Forget DXC Express or DXC Platinum ... in my opinion, they were abominations!

Haaaa! I love it, when things work right away. CloneDVD mobile causes me some headaches at the moment, but I'll tame that beast, too.

@Whisperer1:
This is what I meant with "last resort".
