Re: "NEW" Macrovision coming Tuesday, yea right!

A couple giggles from the press release . . .

"Macrovision, the company whose name became a synonym for copy-protection of VHS movies"

Yes, a system which was easily compromised from day one . . .

"And we know that RipGuard DVD is effective today against 97 percent of the rippers in use in the market."

Well, that's encouraging . . . so it has no effect on 3%, eh?

"Since studios are losing over a billion dollars a year as a result of these rippers, we believe that we can prevent 97 percent of that revenue loss through RipGuard DVD," he added."

It hasn't occured to him that the authors of the 97% non-working rippers are going to look at the 3% that are working, find out why they are working, and incorporate it into their products???

"What you try to do is make it less than just a simple nuisance factor, because if it's a nuisance factor, a lot of would-be honest people will steal it."

I think he meant "more" than a simple nuisance factor, but anyway . . . I'm reminded of their vhs tape protection where you just bought a "video stabalizer" to defeat it . . .

It sounds like the future DVD formats are going to be boogers, but the current ones I think will just have some "nuisances" to deal with.

Re: "NEW" Macrovision coming Tuesday, yea right!

Well, more of an update regarding the problem I ran into with Jimi Hendrix, I noticed on another thread a person had a simular problem with the movie "SAW" I was able to back that one up with no problem at all! But my existing DVD Players/Recorders, were both unable to even "read" the disc with AnyDVD loaded. The 2 units in my computer are a TDK DVDRW0404N & a Sony DVD RW DRU-500A, as I was planning on moving one of the recorders to a new chasis for multi media only, I had forgotten I had ordered a DVD player (only) that arrrived this morning, I replaced the Sony with it. In this unit (a NEC CV-5800A) I was able to read the Jimi Hendrix DVD with AnyDVD installed with no problem! As well as it uninstalled (AnyDVD) was able to read the disc with no probem. I Went back to the TDK, and found that with AnyDVD installed the drive would not read the disc, and with it removed, would read the disc. I am so sorry I sturred thigs up by jumping the gun (Murphys Law) as it appears that both the the origional drives may be starting to fail? I did nto think the odds were there that both would be failign at once, but that may be the case (even though they both work fine for any other DVD I have attemtped. Or perhaps it is due to the playback speed of the new DVD Player? (being a 16X DVD playback) while the others are (sony 8X and the TDK 12X) I have no idea what the problems are, both burners have had latest bios flashed to them. So I guess it may just be the Movie Police sending signals to my computer, and the only way to stop it is to put a aluminum foil pyramid over it perhaps? But as I expected, SlySoft replayed to my email to them within a few hours with a recomendation to look at the PC friendly switch, while that was a moot point, it does show there commitment in providing great customer support after the sale! Hope this will clear things up a bit all! Cheers
