| "NEW" Macrovision coming Tuesday, yea right! Content-protection company Macrovision is expected to release a new DVD copy-protection technology Tuesday in hopes of substantially broadening its role in Hollywood's antipiracy effort. The company is pointing to the failure of the copy-proofing on today's DVDs, which was broken in 1999. Courts have ordered that DVD-copying tools be taken off the market, but variations of the software remain widely available online. Macrovision's new "RipGuard DVD" technology can prevent much of the copying now being done with those tools and can help bolster studios' DVD sales even if it's not perfect, company executives say. Here we go again!!!

Re: "NEW" Macrovision coming Tuesday, yea right! I think I read something about this a while back . . . it appeared that it was targeted at DVDXCopy (I think) as it didn't actually break CSS, it just intercepted the decoded video on it's way to being displayed (or something like that). The new MacroVision in the article was targeting this "digital hole" as they referred to it. Didn't sound like it would affect the tools that actually broke CSS. From what I gathered the software that didn't break CSS was argueably legal and was being sold in mainstream stores so they were more worried about it than they were the CSS breakers which are already ruled illegal in the US and aren't sold in retail stores. At least that the jist of what I remember . . . it's been a few months since I read about it . . .

Re: "NEW" Macrovision coming Tuesday, yea right! What's AnyDVD's stance concerning this new copy protection? what happens if this voids use of the software? I just purchased AnyDVD, $39 bux may seem like a small amount of $$ but I don't want to be throwing away cash either. I guess you spin the cylinder and take your chances when you buy software like this. It's going to suck not being able to backup the movies I buy. Our government (U.S.) needs to get the media industry out of their damn pocket and look out for the consumer. Just like what the Australian Gov. is considering. Sometimes it sucks living in self rightous governed America.

Re: "NEW" Macrovision coming Tuesday, yea right! Well, here is a title for you! "Jimi Hendrix: The Last 24 Hours" GMUS 3049. It was released today I think, but I received my copy today (anyway) and sure enough, I put it in my DVD player, spins but does not start up (with AnyDVD 4.5.7.2 installed) I tried it in my other DVD player (recorder) in my computer with the same results! Plays fine in 3 different home entertainment DVD players, so I uninstalled AnyDVD, sure enough the disc starts up and runs! (but I can't make a backup) I re-installed AnyDVD, and the disc will not start! Yes I did in fact purchase the software from Slysoft, and have had nothing but the finest results until now. While I have no doubt that Slysoft will jump on this problem (I am emailing them next) I thought I should check it out here first as this is where I discovered this great program. I do not know if it is the new "Microvision" or not, and I suppose it is always possable I have a defective new disc, but as it plays fine in my home players, I kinda doubt it. I just hope someone else out there will verify this problem. Cheers all, and thanks for all the great input from everyone out there in cyber world

Re: "NEW" Macrovision coming Tuesday, yea right! Regarding the question from "jripper" above about "What's AnyDVD's stance concerning this new copy protection?" I purchased my copy from them about 5 or 6 months ago. I have never seen so much effort made by ANY other company to take care of their customers after the sale has been made! They release updates on a very regular basis, which I think is due to both their unusuall high quality of customer support, based on emails sent to them, as well as their own efforts in providing the best support I have ever seen, or had the honor of being on the receiving end of! No I do not work for them, I am just another "John Q Public" who is frustrated with the actions of the few ruining life for the rest of us. And one who appreceates service after a sale, which is not all that common now-a-days! Rest assured "jripper" with no diz intended, they will do everything in their power to resolve problems, and in most cases before we are even aware of them! You have not wasted your money at all!

Re: "NEW" Macrovision coming Tuesday, yea right! Thanks guys, that's comforting. I had my doubts since I emailed Slysoft last month concerning a problem and received a curt reply stating "it was not their concern". This gave me the impression they don't give a sh*t about their customer once they had $$ in hand. The problem was, when running AnyDVD, CloneDVD and DVDBitsetter (for Emprex DVD burners) together it caused CloneDVD to error out unable to read certain sectors. I might add it occured when I upgraded my version of CloneDVD. I would have accepted any other response if it weren't so damn rude. Funny thing was in the next release it cleared the problem.....coincidence? probably but still. With comments from here in hand, it slowly may restore confidence and trust again.

Re: "NEW" Macrovision coming Tuesday, yea right! I am so glad you did not misunderstand my reply to you as a diz, I was a bit worried about that, I am however guilty of using AnyDVD but not Clone DVD as I am using Nero to burn my discs, however, I have no doubt that Slysoft's quality standards are the same along any product they work with, sounds like your email was responded to by someone having a bad day, after I was having too many of those in a row I gave up working with the public as I found myself being rude to not only those that did deserve it, but unfortunatly to those that did not deserve it (such as yourself)! Glad your faith is being restored, these folks are worth a lot more resepct than they most likely receive.

Re: "NEW" Macrovision coming Tuesday, yea right! From what you wrote I would assume that they have somehow managed to prevent playback of their DVDs as soon as some sort of pre loader on the DVD discovers that a tool like AnyDVD is installed on the PC. It should however be possible to simply copy the whole content of the DVD to a hard drive on your PC and then view it, burn it or transcode it. This way you would simply bypass RipGuard.

Re: "NEW" Macrovision coming Tuesday, yea right! I can't wait for Slysoft to bypass this with AnyDVD - I use it to get my ORIGINAL DVDs down onto my PocketPC, you know, a backup of my OWN DVD that I paid money for. Really p***** me off that they continually try to stop the "legal" users from doing this. Fedorov.

DVD Release Date: December 14, 2004 This DVD might have a problem with AnyDVD, but it can't be the announced Macrovision thing.

| Re: "NEW" Macrovision coming Tuesday, yea right! What I have read is it not possible for this new protection to work with today's DVDs. It's a thing for next generation formats Blu-ray and HD-DVD.

Re: "NEW" Macrovision coming Tuesday, yea right! does anyone know if this is already being used because last week I tried to rip a backup of the new Aloha Scooby Doo cartoon for my niece using anydvd and none of my buring programs recognized my dvd burner as a burner after I put the disc in. So I rebooted then windows didn't even see my dvds at all, i found a reg hack on google that fixed the problem partially. nero, TMPGEncDVDAuthor, Alcohol 120 and DVD Decrypter now work but anydvd and NTI CD-Maker still don't see my burner. anyone have any ideas.

Re: "NEW" Macrovision coming Tuesday, yea right! I am just wondering out loud, if **AA are suing all the companies like 321 until they went out of business, how come SLYSOFT is not targeted? Plus they are selling this at $40.00 a pop. That's outrageous and kinda funny.
