Myst V DVD clashes with AnyDVD

When trying to play Myst V, which comes on a single DVD, I got the message: 'Emulator detected. Please disable all emulation software and virtual drives.' I am using a registered copy of AnyDVD (5.4.4.1) and no other copying or reading programs. Disabling AnyDVD through the menu would still not run the game but unistalling lets me play with no problems.

However taking AnyDVD on and off the computer is a pain, so does anyone have any ideas?

You could try to switch AnyDVD to "Safe Mode" (Settings->Program). If this doesn't help, I suggest you ask the game manufacturer for a solution, as you are not running any emulator. It is obviously the game's copy protection, which is at fault. Forcing customers to uninstall AnyDVD just to play a game is clearly unacceptable.

Re: Myst V DVD clashes with AnyDVD

This game likely uses Sony's SecuROM protection. Several games in the past have had their SecuROM go haywire, and start insisting that they uninstall software.

The most notable of these was Neverwinter Nights, which locked an estimated 100,000 users out of their bought-and-paid-for game after an automatic update, because they HAD CD BURNERS IN THEIR MACHINES. Oh, what a crime!

You have to call the game's manufacturer. Tell them what your problem is. Don't even mention AnyDVD. Tell them what it's telling you and ask for an immediate fix. They very likely already have one, you're probably NOT the first person to notice this problem.

Last resort if they just WILL NOT HELP YOU... is to download a no-cd patch. However, we can't help you find those. Forum rules, and all.

If AnyDVD "Safe Mode" did not help? Slap the original in the face of your dealer with the words "doesn't work".

Tru: Safe mode didn't work, but thank you for posting.

I ended up unistalling AnyDVD, I can put it back on if I need to watch a movie or finish the game.

Plindeman: Try the Ubi Soft forums. In the tech help and advice a fair few people are reporting the same problem.
