My DVD writer is "not available" for 1ClickDVD

When I try to start IClickDVD Copy (v.4.2.9.1) I get a message that says that my destination drive (DVD-RW) is not available. I am using AnyDVD (v. 5.5.1.1).

When I examine the drive in Windows Explorer (my computer) with a blank DVD in it, it thinks its type is a "CD drive", instead of a DVD RW. So it won't read blank DVDs, but if I stick a prerecorded DVD in it, it now says it is a DVD-RW and it will play the DVD. If I then remove the pre-rec. DVD, it will read a blank DVD for about a minute (and say it is a DVD-RW) and then it will revert back to CD mode and won't read the blank DVD, without removing the blank DVD.

I suspect it is a AnyDVD problem beacuse when I access the AnyDVD Information dialogue box it says that there is no disc in the RW drive (if it has a blank DVD in it), but I don't know. Any ideas?

Thanks!

I ran into this problem before and it was becaise I had uninstalled something that used the pattin couffin driver that 1 click used. You should uninstall 1 click and reinstall it. Thats what worked for me!

Besides the programs you mentioned, do you also have DVD43 on your computer?

If I'm not mistakin' you can fix that problem by updating the burning engine. Doesn't sound like an AnyDVD problem.

Re: My DVD writer is "not available" for 1ClickDVD

I had DVD43 installed before and would have a "successful burn", but the DVD copy was blank ( not actually blank because it would almost crash my system when i tried to play it). Anyway, I uninsatlled it and 1click and then searched for any remnants and removed them, restarted and installed updated versions (today) of 1click and anydvd. So, no i do not have DVD43 installed as far as I know.

thanks for responding. any other ideas?

With regard to updating my burner, are you referring to updating my DVD writer firmware? I did that yesterday, but have since removed 1click and dvd43 and reinstalled 1click with a first time install of anydvd. Do i need to update my firmware again?

I removed 1Click and then reinstalled, and this did not help, but I did not remove anyDVD. Same problem as before.

Since you only 40 min ago got back to us on DVD43, you probably have missed the activity going on over the new version of AnyDVD and the resolution of the conflict with DVD43. (see below link) I believe all reminants of DVD43 have not been uninstalled and changes made to your system by DVD43 still remain.

Read this thread all the way through and then on page 2 of the thread (post#26), download and install the latest AnyDVD v. 5.5.4.1 just released an hour ago.

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=155752

Your disappearing DVD is a classic symptom of the conflict between AnyDVD and DVD43. Just removing it does not always solve the problem: AnyDVD has to be reinstalled over itself or, in this case (and a better solution), updated with the latest version which directly addresses your problem.

I'll bet you your Beans to my Navy Credits that this fixes your phantom disk recognition problem.

Best regards,
Whisperer

Whisperer-

Thanks for letting me know about the new anydvd beta (5.5.4.1). I removed the old one and put on the new one and, alas, still have the same problem.

Whats a Navy credit?

Re: My DVD writer is "not available" for 1ClickDVD

Something my grandfather used to say about how sailors were paid in WWI.

Anyway, it doesn't matter because I was wrong and must now prepare to commit ritual seppuku to atone for my failure.

But before I go, it is just possible your drive conked-out. Try one last thing: delete the problem drive from device manager, then reboot. Windows will then reinitialize it as new hardware. See if it works then. Don't have any other suggestions. Others might...

I was so sure that I was right!

Goodbye everyone...

@ windfrog,

Suggest that you thoroughly review what DVD/CD Burning related software programs you have installed on your computer and provided a detail list so Forum Members can intelligently attempt to trouble shoot your system.

Also check to ensure that you don’t have any packet writing software installed on your computer. If so remove all traces of these programs from your computer. The following are examples of packet writing software programs –Drag-To-Disc, DirectCD, InCD, DLA (Drive Letter Access), CE Quadrant Just!Burn, FileCD, Sony abCD, InstantWrite, Backup4all, B's Clip, NeoClip, InstantBurn, Drag to Disc. This is not an extensive complete list, there are numerous others. Packet writing software programs are invasive programs, which don’t work properly, and cause all types of conflict error problems.

Personally I would remove all traces of any DVD back up coping programs from your computer and use a Widows Registry Cleaner software program and toughly clean your registry of any lingering remits. Then reboot and install the latest versions of the stable and reliable AnyDVD- CloneDVD software program. If this suggestion corrects your problem then you are way ahead of the game if not just considered it a failed trouble-shooting attempt.

Best Regards,
bjkg

This is not an AnyDVD problem. I think you got your answer here:

I don't know if this will help, but sometimes when you update your firmware, you have to open 1 click and check the source drive and destination drive (under options) and change them to the updated drive.

Re: My DVD writer is "not available" for 1ClickDVD

Sorry but just want to add this when you mess with your computer you do this at some risk of a major crash. Use GOBACK or even better Norton Ghost back up everything, a crash will happen time to time as you push the limits, a second HD is a small price to pay for users pushing the limits, no one can tell you for sure just will or will not crash your system (wish I had a dollar for every time my ststem crashed, but now time to recover is much less)

BTW why does Netscape have random crashes (GOBACK recovers?)

@ windfrog,

You have posted exactly the same question in both the 1 ClickDVD Forum and the AnyDVD Forum.

Suggest that you view the Forum Rules (http://club.cdfreaks.com/announcemen...ouncementid=37) and abide by them.

Double posting is against Forum Rules, causes confusion, and is also very discourteous to Forum Members who take the time and effort to provide assistance.
