Memoirs of a Geisha

Hey guys I was able to get this movie ealry this week. But when I tried decrypting the movie I get a error message like 2 min in to the ripping. Im using the latest anyDVD with DVDdecrpter. I also tried the DVDfabdecrypter but it got stuck in the same spot. I did notice this is a SONY movie. Could this be another one of their Arcos protection. Has any one been able to make a back up of this movie yet?

Re: Memoirs of a Geisha

already backed it up. current versions of anydvd and clonedvd2 took care of it no problem.

(i work at a video store and have access to movies in advance of street date before anyone starts accusations. i'll be purchasing this on tuesday, but i always do test backups as soon as i get the movie so i can give advance warning on new protections if necessary)

i don't know hoe you've obtained this move ahead of time, but rest assured, you can back this up with anydvd and clonedvd.

Re: Memoirs of a Geisha

You should be able to rip it using the AnyDVD "rip to hard disc" function. It appears that all new Sony releases have this protection.

Another reason to enable the automatic update check. That's what it made for: To solve problems before you even notice them (and bother poor people in public message boards... )

haha i know i'm paranoid. I can't help it though. I'm one of the biggest advocates of doing things correctly and legally, and i admit that my practice of backing up the copies than i can get at work before i purchase them the day they come out is a little sketchy, but i don't back up anything i don't buy.

plus it's also convenient when i can ge tthings (especially sony titles) a week ahead of time...that gives slysoft and other companies a bit of a head start on new protections

I don't see anything wrong with that personally.

Re: Memoirs of a Geisha

There is a truck stop here in town that always has movies a week before the release date. Guess they pop em out as soon as they receive them.

BenQ 1655 for $43 including tax. not too shabby...although it's going to end up costing me quite a bit after I settle the bet with my boyfriend. I have a feeling he's going to have expensive taste when the night out is on me haha

ROFLMAO! Just couldn't resist, eh? I've been pretty good lately about buying new hardware. Although, I'm eyeing an upgrade for my laptop. I'd LOVE to get 2 gigs of ram and a 100 gig 7200rpm Hitachi drive for it, but, that may be a bit out of the price range right now. A faster DVD burner wouldn't hurt, either. The 8x Sony(rebadged lite on) I have in it now isn't BAD, but, it could be better!

I am having trouble deciding which BenQ to get. May I ask you why you would choose the 50 or 55 over the 1640. I know they have added the "litescribe" disk labeler feature (would you even use that?) But, other than that, do the 50 or 55 include better burning technology of any sort over the 1640?

Thanks,
Whisperer

By the way, I have some discount coupons for Weinerschnizel for you boyfriends dinner. Want me to e-fax them to you? Personally, I wonder why he wasn't just happy enough with finding you on the bedroom floor ... do you not have carpeting?

i have both the 1640 and the 1655 now and i get very similar quality burns out of both (both top notch).

i imagine that the 1655 handles 16x media better than the 1640 does. I was slightly dissatisfied with my 1640 in terms of 16x media, but i only use 8x media so i haven't tested out this theory yet.

i mainly bought the 1655 because it was a good deal and i have a nagging feeling that the 1640 will be not necessarily ignored, but maybe overlooked and not updated as much anymore with the new models out.

if you don't burn 16x media i'd say that the 1640 has the advantage at the moment mainly due to its firmware maturity, but the 1655 has more potential down the road and is more likely to be updated more quickly.

lightscribe didn't factor into my personal decision at all.

i'm very happy with both drives.

the floor was covered in computer parts and the bed had the box for the new drive and all the contents emptied out on it and he knows better than to touch anything haha.

i told him he's lucky i keep him around...i shouldn't have to take him out too! of course he laughed at me.

I simply used CloneCD with AnyDVD and made a dual layer flawless backup. Worked great!
