Because if you are using CloneDVD2 and you try to copy a DVD WITHOUT AnyDVD running in the background, you will get a popup that looks like this....

You can copy a film with clonedvd 2 after the fox head has turned pale and then red again (in the system tray bottom right).

Right clicking the fox in the taskbar will bring up show information. This can also be selected in settings to occur upon disk insertion. (to bring up the information box on the desktop)
Info will show disk information, as well as copy protection that is found on the disk.
At this point, you are ready to rip.
