That's what happens when they used the cheapest bidder to manufacture the disc. I believe China and Mexico are two of the biggest disc duplicators for commercial discs these days. And they're not always successful. This is why I advocate people scanning their discs with Nero CD/DVD Speed and checking for errors whe they encounter ripping problems. Playback isn't always a good indicator.

I posted my success with hoax in the correct fourm because i used another program then AnyDVD.
I usually play my DVD's with Philips dvp642 without much problem, but my $500.00 Panasonic second generation has problems reding DVDR's (book typed to DVD-ROM or not). My newer Toshiba 1080 upconverter also does a good job. One of my older Toshiba DVD players only reads if DVD+R's are book typed to DVD-ROM.

I remember the good old Laser Discs, You could walk on them and they will still play.

Not to get off this subject of this fourm but all players error correction, Laser Focus is not the same. Even if the same brand.

The good old days are long gone, I'm afraid.

You are correct SamuriHL, I have seen discs that play perfectly but cannot be backed up because of pressing errors.

Re: The Hoax Region 1

Bottom line
This title R1 is easily clonable with AD 6184 and CDvd2 2912

Re: The Hoax Region 1

So it would seem. The errors people are getting are very likely due to bad originals.

I just got the region 1 version today SamuriHL, it had no problems whatsoever. The burn went smooth as silk.

Re: The Hoax Region 1

That might be a good idea just to make sure that you have a good disc.

Yes, its burning now, but I will have to watch the movie again or do a Disc scan with Nero for bad sectors to be sure.

Re: The Hoax Region 1

How come there is so many bad presses with this particular DVD? A little bit fishy, don't you think?

Re: The Hoax Region 1

No, I don't think it's fishy at all. As I said before, when you farm out your dvd pressing to the cheapest bidder(aka china and mexico), well, you get what you pay for. Entire batches of discs may "pass QA" and be released to the public, but, that doesn't mean they aren't flawed. It happens *WAY* more than you'd care to think about.
